First photo. This part snaps into place behind the brake pedal. Need to know what it is.

Second photo. I unsnapped the part in the first pic and this small plastic piece broke off from somewhere.

Initial problem started with brake lights and tail lights not working. When that small piece broke and fell out the brake/tail lights came on and won’t go off now.

I did also get a code indicating that there’s an issue w the cruise control brake switch

Appreciate any advice and help

Ignore the duplicated pics.
 
The brakelight switch on RHD cars is operated by a lever which depresses the switch and is located under the passenger side footwell. There's a silver metal bracket and a white plunger type thing with an electrical connector .Whether this missing thing somehow connects to that is unclear.
