General What is it?

I have a Uno based kit car with a 1987 registration, which I assume to be the age related plate of the donor Uno. It has a 138A Series engine, 1116cc.

I need to get a few spare parts, but all the suppliers ask what model Uno it is!

What is it likely to be ???

If that is the age of it then i would hazard a guess of it being the mk1 shape, but this may be different if you are in a different country.

Could be a 55 though.

5 speed gearbox and twin choke Weber carburettor it will be a mk1 Uno 60S

4 speed gearbox and single carburettor, it will be a mk1 Uno 60

If it were 85/ 86 or earlier it may have been a Uno 55. I'm fairly sure all 1116cc models from 1986 onwards were Uno 60.

If you go to most parts places, including Fiat, they will want the chassis number or vehicle registration to identify parts. Bear in mind that Fiat's Eper (electronic parts catalogue used by dealers) doesn't cover Unos made before 1989 :bang:

Cheers guys. I was thinking Mk1 60 something. Can't go by body shape as it no longer has the body or chassis to supply anything useful like the chassis number.

The car is a Firecat, now residing in Somerset (so this country, just, EssexUno ).

Haven't driven it far enough to see if there's a fifth gear in there --- guessing I have the mechanicals of a Mk 1 60 as it's single carb.

No Fiat chassis number -- and I would guess the plate isn't the original allocated to the donor, so wouldn't be of any used identifying the original car either (DVLA have the car registered as a Firecat).

At the mo I am only after the engine mounts and rear wheel bearings (nearside, but might as well do both), possibly sliding bush on the front nearside Macpherson strut.

There's an oil leak there somewhere but haven't been under to have a good look yet -- so more bits might be needed there.

I will stand corrected, but I think if it has the lampredi engine all the mounts for the different models will be the same. there are two engine types Lampredi and fire,and oops the Sting 903 cc engine too. Lampredi engines have the block mounted distributor, Fire engines have the dist in the end of the camshaft.

I am quite new to this but I am sure someone will confirm this. Do you have a Haynes for an Uno. You will get heaps of help here even though the body is different.

Cheers for that. AFAIK (and I am totally new to Fiats -- so could be wrong!) the 1 litre engine (999 cc) was changed for FIRE in 85. the 1.1 (1116cc) held on until 1989 before becoming a FIRE lump. so, by default this would be a Lampredi, I guess ---- something else I have learnt

I didn't write correctly in my post above, what I meant to say was a single choke carburettor (single barrel) would be a 4 speed 60 whereas a twin choke carburettor (twin barrel) would be a 5 speed 60S

Technically yes, but I think the Turbo, which uses a turbocharged Lampredi engine, has stronger mounts. They will all interchange but obviously using n/a mounts on a turbo engine wouldn't last as long!

Gets confusing with the mk2 SPi Lampredi engines as they had distributors on the end of the camshaft also. Same with mk2 turbo engines!

Not quite. It's confusing because the 903cc ohv and the 999cc FIRE engined Unos were both badged as '45'. The 903cc ohv was fitted in all 45 models from 1983. The 999cc FIRE was introduced in 1985 for the Lancia Y10 and only in 1986 for the Uno (I think) and the 903cc ohv engine was discontinued completely. Around approx. 1987 the 903cc ohv engine was brought back for 45 base models only. The 999cc FIRE was still available in either base 45 model, 45S and in special editions (Platinum, Bianca, Quartz?, Biarritz? etc.) The 1116cc Lampredi lump was fitted to all mk1 60 models up to 1989, then the mk2 60 models used the 1108cc engine. However, mk2 Selecta models only still used the old 1116cc Lampredi lump until that model was discontinued in the early 1990's. All mk2 70S i.e. and SX i.e. models used the 1372cc Lampredi engine.
