Technical What gearbox on Fire Unos?

That's great news because my 70SX has nackered synchomesh, so need new or recon it - and I have (been trying to eBay) the C514(?) out of my ELX90 Punto, which has the bellhousing to fit the 128-type block

So gearbox mount brackets must exist in UK, leaving only gear and clutch linkage to sort!

I haven't researched it yet but the ELX90 gearing is fairly tall, with 14" wheels, so should shorten the 70SX's ridiculously tall gearing nicely. Don't know about speedo drive.

You can join my club in trying to get some gearbox mounts for this box. I plan to put a C514 box in an upcoming Uno project next year and haven't found any yet. You will need driveshafts as well and different hubs to accept the slightly different spine size as you currently enjoy a C510 gearbox like the turbo presumably? You are right that the Punto gearing will be shorter in your car. Do you have hydraulic clutch operation at the moment?

I don't think the 70SX shares driveshafts with the turbo (a half shaft on the right hand side / O/S) I seem to recall reading about a counter or balance weight on the shaft nad tripoid joints. the 70 may have the same hubs as the 45 and 60, and wet cups too??

As for the hydralic clutch, I'd guess it could be converted back to cable if needed. the MK2 turbo box carries all the points for a cable clutch and the arm at the top of the clutch fork can be swapped for the cable jobbie too.

The Punto type box on later Unos is cable operated for left hand drive cars, as it is for modern pandas. I'd guess most FIAT boxes with hydralic clutches could be cable operated for left hand drive

USA on the EPER would have little to do with america... Although the Uno was unvailed in Miami, it also signaled FIAT pulling out of the USA market.

Are you after mount brackets or just the rubbers? you can get the rubber mounts from shop4parts - I replaced tham on my Uno with later box ;). better still give Mick a call at eurocarcare in derby and he may sort you a better price and post out too :D

Can't remember if I left the mounts and brackets on the Box Lewey

It doesn't share the driveshafts, it shares the outer CVs and hubs and will require therefore the hubs from a lesser model if fitting later box.

I agree you can go either way easily, just matters what is on the car at the moment.

USA refers to emission standards similar to EURO 2 or whatever.

Got rubbers, need the metal brackets. Would have loved it if you had left the brackets on that gearbox!
