hi there all.finally got my mk 1 uno turbo back home and now the modding begins :D .from what i understand so far the mk1 uno turbo ECU cannot be chipped, this is a pain as i chipped my fiat coupe 16v turbo in about 30 mins with amazing results. What have other people out there done? need to know which are the best systems for the best money.if anyone has played with their engine management on their mk1 any information would be much apreciated.many thanks,Dave :slayer:

You mean "aftermarket"?

You have many choices but all get expensive or go MEGESQUIRT
Personally, i dont like it.

Tom (MK1 Kid) is converting his MK1 to run Punto GT managment, he'll tell you more about it if your intrested but it seems like a very good idea

That i am, but i'm finding its a bit of a pain in the bum to be honest. I wont have any mapping to do though, as i have a seb 4.1 chip (see search facility on www.puntosports.co.uk for more info re chip) ready to drop in which is a bonus. GT injectors are rated at 238cc/min compared to 179cc/min of the mk1's...

Its not as good as standalone obviously but its better than the OE, then add the benefits of a good chip..

If you want more info please ask.

just turn the boost up to 14psi on it mate, bleed valves all the way

There's a big difference though in just a bleed valve and a chip combined with a few mods.

Most GT's when chipped with just the basic bolt on mods will produce around 170bhp at the fly. 14psi on a mk1/2 with the same mods might see 135bhp....

im going to run Omex 600 engine management eventually as this is a competition ecu with soooo many features like ALS, nitrous controller, water injection, hi/low boost, launch control, traction control etc

Dunc

GIT!! lol ;)

Chips only make a slight difference IMO. The chip does not give you the power, its the rest of the mods.

Sure. GT can make 170 with a chip but they need to run 20psi boost to do it. Hardly a good way to tune your engine IMO. Unos would make the same if the management could supply enough fuel. GT's make pretty much the same power with the same boost chipped or not.

For the record I made around 165BHP with 15psi on a mk2 with stock efi. 200 @ 19psi with GT injectors

Sorry Steve i agree, the point i was making is that the GT efi and injectors have the capacity to support more boost and hence more bhp.

179cc/min vs 238cc/min (or higher as tested)

cheers for the info so far guys.are the GT injectors a straight replacement for the 1.3 turbo ones or is some fidling involved? :slayer:

The inlets need to be welded to partially fill the recess where the original injectors fit. The weld just needs to be present to allow a new hole to be drilled of a different size, and one that acepts the mk2, push-in injector.

Mine have been with a chap on a local industiral esate for probable a month now, as the muppet made a right pigs breakfast of it the first time.

Note the mk1 or mk2 fuel rails are no good after this, and a custom one will need to be fabricated.
