Hi

The below pic is not mine but the only one I could find on the internet. Ive forked out enough on my bloody 4 yr old punto, i aint forking out 20 quid for a manual aswell.

Its the yellow light to the left of the red battery light(in the picture its the pic in the bottom right. Its like a weird square thing.

What does this mean? any help would be great, it came on 2nite whilst driving 10mph for an hour and a half in the snow

It's the engine management warning light.
If it is on constant it probably means a misfire has occured. Find a no main dealer garage that can read the faul code recorded in the ECU. Be warned if it is a misfire it will only get worse and can shag the ECU, so find out what is causing the misfire and get it fixed. I speak from experience !
Typical cause of misfire is Plugs, HT leads, coils, and ECU in order of cost to fix.

To reset the warning light have a search on here for instructions, think it's called a phonic relearn, that way you can tell if it was a one off or not.

bloody snow, hopefully be able to at least get it read on a computer tomorrow.

I tried running the car again today incase it was a one off cause I was in 2nd geat for over an hour.

Its still on :( I can hear a slight noise from the engine that is not normally there and it smells like fumes, not had that before.

Guess its the FIAT (Fix It Again Tomorrow). Nothing but problems, I thought with it being only 4 years old, 20,000 miles on the clock and full service history, I was buying a newer car with less problems, turns out to be the worst buy EVER.

On first MOT had to but new front suspension, shock absorbers, brake linkage value plus some other stuff, also got 4 pages of advisory to get done by next MOT which is 2 months away now.

Need to get rear suspension and shock absorbers, the central locking is knackered and its works one minute, get back to the car and its unlocked, exhaust was replaced a few months ago

Overall what a steaming pile of crap, spent nearly £1000 and thats without the engine light now being on

Fiat Never Ever Again !!

See You Luv Your Punto As Much As I Luv Mines LLF

Did you get it checked out by someone who knows a bit about cars before you bought it ?

Had it been used for a bit of rallying ! Whith 20k on the clock it's still a baby!

FIATS do have their faults make no mistake and are generally well documented on here but you seem to have got a wrong un there mate.

I've had a MK1 for about 8 years and yes a few bits have worn out in 109,000 miles like brake discs and trailing arm bushes but still on original suspension clutch etc. Just passed MOT with nothing to report.

Good luck mate sounds like you could do with some.

Might be worth disconnecting the battery for a while (long enough to have a cup of tea and a ciggy for example) this will clear the error log. Then reconnect baterry and go for a drive.
Haynes manual says:-
When battery diconnected ECU settings are lost and reverts to some base settings. On restarting may run roughly until ECU re-learns the optimum settings. Best accomplished by driving on road test for approx 15 minutes covering all engine speeds and loads, concentrating mainly in the 2,500 to 3500 rpm range.

Be warned if you keep driving it with a misfire it will most likley shag the ECU ! (n) Thats what happened to her indoors 55 plate MK2 and guess who got the pleasure of fixing it.

ive just driven it down to my local garage, the engine light went off but the Red power steering light has come on and the steering is heavy, please god nothing more, I cant take it lol
