What are relays for??

i just bought some door poppers, that i am going to connect up to my alarm remote, but when i bought them, it said that i might need a relay, but what would this be used for?

It the door popper operated with a electric motor ?
If yes, to let/block the curent to it.

A relay is an electrical switch which takes the 'strain' off the mechanical switch. If the power that goes through a relay to a component were to go directly through the switch, it would burn out in no time!

They are also used as 'crossovers', i.e. window up or window down, door open, door closed

45 LB Shaved Door Handle Kit, why do you want a door "HANDLE" kit. Surely you want a door or boot kit. Whats the handle got to do with it?
