General Webasto heater playing up

The Webasto heater under my Ulysse is chucking out alarming deisel fumes and sometimes clouds of smoke when the outside temperature is cold. The local Fiat Garage says they can't do anything as when I take it in it's normally warmed up enough for the problem not to show:bang:. Any suggestions as to what I can do to either fix this or dissable the heater would be welcome. Thanks.

Amazing - why didn't I think of that! I was hoping to get something a bit more technical.

It is already booked in again but they'll probably just end up charging me again for the privalage of not be able to do anything!

I seem to recall posting several links to sources of information about the Webasto heater for you about a year ago.

After all this time, haven't you found out anything about it yourself yet? I was hoping perhaps you could tell the rest of us more about it.

Its like all things ulysse strange,quirky and possessed by electrical demons!! I take mine to the end of the road on cold mornings about 500yrds to the petrol station park up,get out and watch all the staff panic when the smoke pours out the bottom.I think you can disconnect them but details are few and far between.

Yes I remember you posting that but as far as I recall the info that I found was very scarce, I think it was about the kit for remote control of the unit, what I would like would be a workshop manual for the unit, Is this info so secret that it can't be shared? we just get tempted with talk of all sorts !!!!!!

I doubt you're ever going to find a workshop manual as such. The auxiliary heaters were not a popular option in the UK or Ireland.

If I had one myself, I'd be searching the internet for all the information I could find and collating it into a manual of sorts so I could understand it better.

Have you tried any of the European forums for more information. Not the best option as the online language transtators are never very accurate with technical words.

Also try a local commercial vehicle repairers, they may be able to tell you something about them, I think they're fitted in quite a few trucks.

If you do get anywhere with it, post it up, could be a reference for other members.

This may sound absolutely barmy - but try some of the Boat Builders in Norfolk - I know Alpha Craft (Brundall) have fitted Webasto's to their boats.

At what temperature does the Webasto kick in? The temperatures outside got up to a blistering 10 degrees last week and mine still came on after a short journey.

Does anyone know what controls it coming on (a relay or a thermostat?) and would it be possible to switch it off completely? (as long as there are no negative effects)

I've done an ODB2 diagnostic on the car to see if anything shows and it only comes up with one error without code (says it is a manufacturer code - I'm guessing it is something to do with having an after market head unit rather than an engine code)

The squealing from under the car after a short journey is doing my head in! Sometimes it lasts for 30 seconds, sometimes a few minutes.
