Waxing tips

I have washed my car, all sparkly but with horrid car wash swirls in the paint work. My own fault I know but I want to give it a good polish and get rid of the swirls. Any advice as I've never waxed a car, what products do you suggest? How to apply it? And how to buff it up? Any help would be great, cheers.

whats so bad about washing your car with a sponge????? I use a sponge....or one of those fibre sponge things.

you get tiny scratches especialy in on cars with clear coats, again plenty about this in the car care section, a lambs wool mit and the 2 bucket methord should be used

I used on of those hosepipe car wash bruses on a pole what a mistake that was

I used Autoglym Super resin polish and a shed load of elbow grease must have done it three times back to back and its a lot better than it was. Apparently Autoglymes paint Renovator is quicker but you need to go steddy with it then finish with SRP and for a final level of protection the do Extra gloss protection....

Scratch X by Meguiars is the very best to get scratch and swirl marks out of the top gloss coat.
Hard work.....
Deadly to use a sponge.....you 'trap' the grit and drag it over the paintwork.....and the GP's paintwork is very soft...always use a lambswool mit and when you're washing the car rinse it out after EVERY PANEL!
You can get both things from Halfords.

Bear in mind Auto express and Aston are paid quite alot by companies to advertise products.

AE car product reviews are pretty naff. Dont get me wrong AG do very good products and i have a few in my collection.

mer contains a cutting agent so every tine you use it you are loosing a bit of paint

the 'best' off the shelf products are tbh, nothing special... if you go to a recommended site off of detailing world then you will see products you will probably not of heard of... like chemical guys, and poorboys etc...

for best results you will need a pc to remove the swirls (porter cable) or similar machine. hth

Autoglym SRP just fills in the swirls and hides them. It's not actually polishing them out.

I use Prima Swirl, applied with Clearkote pads (**** all on Ebay). It works to some degree... but TBH, you'd be best of using a Porter Cable and some Poorboys swirl remover. You could also 3 stage the car with Meguairs 3 stage treatment. Stage one will help to remove the swirls. Always use Microfibre cloths.

TBH, I'm not a fan of Autoglym products - too dusty and it's silicon based. Meguairs is FAR superior and there's not much difference in price.

This is Mrs Digimods' car after a good session. This was also swirled up from the dealers.
