I have had a search through previous posts but I cannot find any that seem exactly the same as the problem I discovered in my GPS today.

I have the same problem with water from the boot when opened, water on the parcel shelf etc. In addition to these common faults, I have today found water underneath the rear seat when I lifted it up to put the rear backrest down. The metal underneath was wet on the passenger side of the car. I was quite shocked at this and will be ringing my local Fiat dealer tomorrow to get this and some other niggly faults sorted out.

Has anyone else had any experience of this? I wondered if it was maybe connected to the leaky tailgate problem that most people unfortunately seem to have experienced.

Many thanks for any help.

probably coming from roof seal & running down C pillar, any water in spare wheel well?

I've emptied the boot and there is definately no sign of water in the spare wheel well. In fact, there are no wet carpets or any sign of wet anywhere else under than directly under the back seat on the metal.

I'm booked in for this Thursday at D. Salmon's in Colchester but was somewhat surprised that I shall be charged £5.88 for use of a courtesy car! I've borrowed courtesy cars on numerous occasions from them before and have never had to pay. Has anyone else had experience of this at a Fiat garage or is it just Salmon's? Since it is all warranty work that I'm to have done, I think they've got a bit of a cheek charging.

Ask the garage to collect and return the car. I've had this done a few times and got a lift to to work.(y)

Its not ideal but its to cover insurance as so many cars are getting damaged, £5.88 is actually good as normally twice that price.

I have paid £10 in the past but, don't worry, your dealer will probably let you off after the second or third visit!

Why are you surprised? Courtesy cars aren't always free - definitely not here!

I was quoted £10 for a courtesy car by my local Fiat dealer even though my MJ was in under a warranty issue, after 2 separate visits and 2 differents 1.2 actives they didnt even mention the cost so I didnt either :D

Like a few other reply`s to this the small admin fee is to cover insurance so £5.88 is good really..(y)

Re: Water Under Rear Seat/Water from Boot

I have the same problem with water from the boot when opened, water on the parcel shelf etc. In addition to these common faults, I have today found water underneath the rear seat when I lifted it up to put the rear backrest down. The metal underneath was wet on the passenger side of the car. I was quite shocked at this and will be ringing my local Fiat dealer tomorrow to get this and some other niggly faults sorted out.

I took my GPS into Salmon's in Colchester last month (June) and was advised that the rear wiper had been re-sealed. Last week after some very heavy rain, I opened the boot to find that the water ran out the sides of both the rubber bungs in the boot door as before.

On Monday, I returned to the garage. This time they re-sealed both the rear wiper (already done last month) and the brake light under the spoiler. I was told that Salmon's had contacted Fiat and that Fiat had advised them that it is normal for water to run out of the boot, hence the two drain holes onlong the lip of the boot. I just do not understand this. Surely if you have drain holes in a boot to get rid of surplus water, these should drain whilst the boot is in the closed position. However, the water is not draining out from within my boot door until it is opened/raised. Hence, if you do not open your boot for a while after rain, the water is just sitting in it.

Am I being fobbed off here or do you all agree with this explanation? :bang:

Fobbed off probaly. Their is a design fault somewhere, and its one that seems to be very difficult to locate and is bringing a number of issues to different owners including stained roofs, water under rear seat, water in the spare wheel section in boot, and in my case water running out of the two rubber stops and hearing it slosh around. IMO i am concerned about corrosion as I cant see these covered areas being water protected? I might be wrong.

Had my GPS in for its first service yesterday. Whilst it was there, i asked them to look at my boot door (once again) since rain water still runs out of it. Previoulsy I've had the rear wiper re-sealed twice and the brake light unit re-sealed. Now I have to take it back again next week to have the rear window re-sealed.

No doubt the problem will still remain. Do any of you actually ever get rid of this common problem or are you all just putting up with it? It's really starting to frustrate me now. :bang:

I gave up just gave the entire inside of the boot skin a thick coat of cavity wax (by removing the boot lid liner)

In my experience it is something you learn to live with. Mine has been in many times for this and still does it. Given up now. :( I empty it after a heavy downpour or else it ends up sloshing about while driving.

just to add i have tried all sorts to locate the leak my latest involved filling the car with "smoke" to try and see where it was leaking (with the boot card removed)

"smoke" from a DJ smoke machine before anyone thinks up the idea of lighting a fire in teh boot of their GP ;)

is it possible it could be the hose for the rear washer leaking? Into the boot lid that is?

Not in my case either - it's definately after rain only.

I presume those of you that have decided to live with this problem don't intend to keep your GP's for very long. I bought mine new a year ago and will probably have it until after the anti-perforation warranty (or whatever it's called) has rexpired. By that time, if I'm prepared to live with the problem I reckon it will pretty much on its way to rusting through the boot from inside out. I don't believe (as Salmon's in Colchester have tried to make me believe) that the bodywork on Fiats is galvanized on the inside - this is a Fiat for godsake, not a Merc or BMW.

However, apart from this niggly problem, this is the fifth Fiat I've had and I would definately buy another one again.(y)
