Over the past couple of weeks I was getting confused that my washer fluid was running out quickly. I couldnt see any leeks around the bottle or jets. Also the car was smelling a little like a soggy dog!

Anyway, today my passenger was collected some bags from the rear footwell and noticed some foaming water in the rear footwell (by the inner runners the seat connects too).

So it seems that when using the rear squirter it fills up my rear footwell :-( I've soaked it up the best as I could (the void under the carpet to chassis must have had a centimetre of water sitting there) and will call the garage in the morning.

Just concerned about the carpet moulding up and possible electrical damage ( by coincident my DAB has been suffering the past couple of days so wonder if the aerial runs long there somewhere).

:-(

Sounds like the hose from the washer bottle has come away - trace it back from where it routes through to the rear hatch - probably within that rubber 'housing' you can see top dead centre when the hatch is raised.

The washer pipe fractures, seen it a few times happen at work ( I work in a fiat dealer) and the passenger footwell fills up. I’ve actauually watched the water gush in.

Passenger seat has to come out, luckily the carpet is in sections so the whole interior doesn’t need to come out

My rear wash stopped working a week ago. I could smell screen wash fluid in the car so was concerned it was coming into the cabin. However after investigations I discovered the fluid was coming from behind the near side front wheel arch cover. I’ve got the car booked in for service on Monday so it can be sorted under warranty. ?.

One we had in recently for this problem

So you are saying the pipe fractures.

A pipe does not fracture unless:

o Blocked and pump pressure exceed pipe pressure capacity
o Pipe contents are frozen and pipe splits
o Pipe is subjected to continual flexing or other abrasion/irritation
o Other physical "attack and degradation events"

I think we need facts and clarity on where, when and how the rear washer pipe is being split/broken/compromised.

All seems rather odd to me at the moment (with no definitive other info). In all my 45+ years of Fiat ownership and maintenance I've never come across a washer bottle pipe filling the rear foot well of a vehicle with it's fluid.

I'm not saying this never happened but this/these events raise some serious questions that need to be answered (based on event technical analysis).

I/you all can post some perfectly valid suggestions as to what is/was going on e.g.:

o No antifreeze in washer system - this would render the up font engine/wing areas far more likely to be frost damaged that an internal cabi pipe

o Pipe is unprotected and vulnerable to foot traffic, chassis flexing, etc, within the cabin area/enclosure

o Other ?????

It all happened within the timeframe of cold weather so possibly freezing.

When the customer come in, her washers were empty, I filled it with water and the the rear washer still worked, however you could see the water gush in from the plastic trim where it meets the carpet under the rear bench.

The Fiat mastertech told me it’s common that they fracture on the 500x

Was all fixed yesterday - they said that the connector for the washer fluid had split around the read passenger door sill.

Car is all dried dried out, however radio reception is still dodgy so dont know if the aerial runs along the same section and maybe there is still some water/damp lingering around so will see how that goes and if it continues will get back to the dealer.
