Hello peeps,

any idea how to repair/fix a radiator that is blocked.??
Reason why i am sure its block is because of an emergency road-side repair where i had to insert a bit of curry (Yes, spice:eek: ,whole packet, smart-ass-advice from a friend) to stop n leak temporally under my timing belt cover(more downwards to crankshaft pulley.) :bang:

symptom: *Car gets hot after 6 kilometres driven, have not been able to see untill where the tempreture gauge go's.
Any ideas what could have given the ghost under my timing belt cover???
and with what i can clean/flash-out the spice build up inside radiator so its no more blocked???

Read through Heynes repair guide, but i need some real life experiance advice from you guys...(y)

Thanx mates....

Under your timing belt cover lives the waterpump ;)

I'd guess that you have a waterpump that don't pump water any more if you have had a leak in this area and now the water isn't circulating.

I don't have any real life experianc of adding spice to the coolant but I don't think it would block the whole rad, or thermostat but I may be wrong. unless it's about 10 kilos.

Don't let the temp go into the red as you'll warp the head then it's head gasket time too

Hi and thanx.

Wil have to take off the timing belt cover and examin it carefully. does this mean i have to replace water pump as a new or can it be fixed in my garage?

(off topic: can i use marine aquarium silicon to help seal the camshaft cover under my airfilter because i noticed there is oil leaking in that area. i have gaskit ready.

The cam cover gasket is cheap so it's maybe not worth the risk of getting silicone inside the engine when you tighten it down.

Can you get any heat from the in car heater? That should still get warm if the water pump were working, and the radiator were blocked. Unless you totally filled it with spice.

Again the water pump is cheap to replace, so re conditioning would perhaps cost more in parts than a whole pump – well in the UK anyway.

The water pump is driven off the cam belt so perhaps replace the cam belt and tensioner while it's off if you don't know when it was last done.

If cost is an issue, it's worth considering that the pistons will NOT hit the valves if the cam belt snaps in an 8 valve fire engine, so won't cause a big money fix ;). Pity the same can't be said for the 16V fire engine.

But you will be stranded until it's replaced, as the engine won't run. I wouldn’t fancy getting stranded half way across the desert. Do you have Lyons and Tigers that could eat you as you walk to get help?

hi guys,agian

i removed the starter, opened it all is good. i connected it directly to car battery and it spins like a rocket! (should i be checking earthing?)

also removed timing cover and all seems fine with no leakes but car stil gets warm and water bursted out of my radiator cap after a short drive and keeping it to idle a short while. heat gauge was near red mark on dash.

i clueless someone help...

(if i cant get this one fixed its off to scrap yard)
