Technical Water/Coolant Leak

Hi,

Finally managed to get my wifes 03 JTD Multipla up and running after the cold spell - needed the battery replacing (under warranty).

However, after starting the car I noticed a large puddle forming under the engine. On closer inspection I have found the source of the leak.

Now, I'm really not that techincally competent regarding cars, so please forgive my poor usage of terminology.

I've found that water is pouring out of a pipe (about 2 cms wide) that can be found behind the engine block, with the pipe seeming to enter into the main body of the car. There is an identical pipe running parallel - I assume that one is for flow into the car and the other is the return path - something to do with the heating??

Anyway, both hoses are complete detached from the pipe that enters the car. I can see a o-ring on the metal pipe, a metal clip and a lose ring of black plastic. I'm guessing that during the big freeze some frozen water has pushed the pipe away from the connectors.

Anyone know how to re-attach the hose? Not sure how to open the clip - looks like a tool might be needed to prise the clip open. Also, wondering if the black plastic ring has spilt from the plastic hose or whether it is supposed to be seperate.

Theres not much room to work in - I can just about get one hand in place.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I think I _may_ have highlighted the wrong pipes on that engine diagram.

Here are a couple of photos of the pipes in question.

I've taken off the engine cover to give a little bit more room, but its really tight to get in there to try and reattach. I just don't know how to re-fix the pipes - can't quite work out if its simply a case of realigning and pushing to fit, or whether the clip needs to come off. Any ideas?

sorry never across them, never had to do much with multipla heater matrix.

those are your input and output pipes from your heater matrix, basically an internal radiator that your internal fan blows through to give you hot air inside the car.

it's a possibility that during the big freeze if your anti freeze was in poor condition as it looks like it might be from the second picture, somethings frozen up somewhere and caused the pipes to pop off due to a pressure build up.

while the pipes are off you might as well reverse flush your heater matrix and main radiator and take the opportunity to give the system a good clean through. once youve worked out how to reattach the pipes id get some decent anti freeze in there sharpish.
