Hello All and thanks in advance for your help...so here goes...

My 52 plate 1.6 ELX front and rear washers are no longer working just decided to stop. Checked the book and fuses etc which all appear fine. Looked for relays but unsure exactly where the correct one is and how to tell if it is duff or not. I have a multimeter if this can help me find this out when I find it (just unsure how to do this). Anyway I though I would check the pump thinking this may have gone but when I think about it more I feel it may be an electrical fault. Both front and back have stopped working and normally when I pull the stork to operate the washers the wipers automatically start working too to clean the windscreen. When I pull the stalk nothing happens, the washers nor the wipers operate like they should. However I can operate the wipers as normal.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

The Multipla is peculiar in that pulling the stalk to make the washers squirt does not make the wipers work at the same time. So you need to pull to squirt, then flick to wipe. If that makes sense.

So it sounds as though you've only got a problem with the washer. Is there a whirring noise when you pull the stalk towards you?

Hello and thanks for the reply

Now I think about it yes your right they did not come on when you pull the stalk. The motor makes not noise whatsoever which originally led me to think it was duffed but not sure as the back stopped working at the same time as the front and also makes no noise too.

What do you think?

Washer pump's packed in, or fuse for same. The same pump pushes water to both the windscreen and rear window - the motor spins one way or t'other to send water to the required glass. Little one way valves (well known for getting clogged) stop water getting sucked back along the pipes to the pump.

You could connect the pump motor terminals direct to a good 12V source (a battery charger would do) to see if it's still working.

Thanks again I might buy a pump there not expensive on ebay and give that a go. There is no noise at all when I operate the stalk for front and rear which makes me think the pump is goosed. I have a 12v dc power supply I could use that plugs into the mains to test it. I could snip the end piece off and crocodile clip the end to make it useable. Only rated at 1500ma though would this be enough to make the pump work?

Thanks for the reply i will have a look when i take it off this weekend. I didn't think they could be opened and cleaned they look like a sealed unit.

Thanks again i will report back and let you know how i got on

Took the pump out and cleaned it up but still not working. I noticed the terminals on the pump and connector were a bit rusty so cleaned these too and sprayed circuit cleaner too. Looks like a new pump is required! Just hope it works when I fit a new pump, MOT soon and it won't pass. Tried everything else.
