hi, can anyone help ,i have a fiat brava and a red warning light came on which looks like a car with the bonnet open, the throttle went dead until the speed came down to 40mph.this has happened twice on my way to and from work.when i turn it off then start again it seems fine.can anyone advise me please.thankyou.

never heard of the warning lamp which looks like a car with the bonnet open.
i guess thats a mk2 development that wasnt on the mk1s. logically it must be the engine management light.

the quickest and easiest way to find the fault would be a diagnostics check, fiat can do it but many independant garages also have the equipment these days. expect to pay appox £30. there's no guarantee that it will tell you exactly whats wrong but its your best bet and often cheaper in the long run, replacing parts randonly can quickly become an expensive mistake.

there's no obvious cause to me but im 95% sure the problem is a simple sensor fault, it usually is. finding an intermittent fault like this is often tricky so its worth getting a diagnostics check done to see which fault codes have been stored in the ecu.

Hello,

Is this an automatic gearbox brava ?. I think the symbol is an automatic transmission warning light, which could be a sign that gearbox is overheating etc.

Owen.

that would also explain why i havent seen this light before.

if it is the automatic transmission temperature warning light you should check the fluid level in the transmission

yes it is an automatic brava on a t reg, thanks for the tip im sure the transmission fluid is ok but ill check it first thing thanks.

We've just had the same problem as mrxktm today, and the light switched off by itself after the car was turned off and (eventually) started again (causing traffic jam). Could it be a sensor fault? (perhaps unlikely in my case due to low transmission fluid since the car is just a week old) We took it straight to the dealer and he said he doesn't know much about it since its one of the first dualogics to hit AU roads

on a dualogic grande punto it could be anything. they're too new and uncommon to know about the faults with the dualogic system. as you say even the dealers struggle.
