Hey all,

Seeing as my punto gt is nearly on the road, my baby cinq will be coming off......an having a dramatic re-vamp. Bodywise she is to stay pretty much standard, just decent full re-spray and a slight bodykit.
But.......and this is a big BUT.......my engine is only a 899.....and has done over 127k now......so is starting to struggle a fair bit now.......and am wanting a change.
I have thrown the 1.1, 1.2 and 1.4 turbo conversions out the window and go full out and with the aid of my buddies.......want to import either a kawasaki gsx-r 1000 or go even further and slam a hayabusa turbo engine in.
I know there are companies out there who do kits for the mini etc.......but was wondering if anyone knows of anyone or any company who specialise in this.

Any help would be appreciated
Ben

i contacted the guys who do the mini vtec conversion a while back n they were willing to give it a bash but wanted the car for over a year lol

y dont ya just buy a sporting n ride the poor gixxer or busa???? less money and more sense!

unless your gonna be doing some seroius drag/strip/etc then the lil car will be pretty useless. a car running a bike engine takes an awful lot of maintenace to, will cost a fortune to do, and maintain :)

??.....wat you mean?

This car is to be made road legal and and have it as a show car........the reason for me wanting to do this is that im fed up of people standing at sides of roads and laughing becuse "its a roller skate".......i'd like to see their faces when this little beast leaves most things standing.
This is a project of mine and my buddies and are really only looking for hints tips and advice from people who excel in this field. We would like to do this on our own. But obviously if this gets too hard.....then we'll ask for help

you wanna look into clutches.. remembering bike clutches are hand operated!

also the gearchange, you need to know how to convert that to a way u can control in the car.

you need the bike gearbox.

But hydraulically operated, for the most part......... no biggy there.

And a reversing box. But forgetting reverse, it's a simple lever action, backwards and forwards.

I've been wondering if a Mazda wankel motor and box could be squeezed in to give rwd!

Hand operating a bike clutch is no biggie. It just pays to correctly calc the lever arm ratio (bike to car) remembering that you can apply much more force with your feet than you can with a grip.

A Heavy stand on brake is calc'd at about 200N so TBH Id want 75-100N (7.5kg-10kg force) for a clutch.

Most Bike gearboxes are sequential..so Implementing a bike one is much easier than implementing a car one in many respects.

Id think bike gearing will be the issue myself as to get a useable power band (eg: wide enough to use before running out of engine speed) you may (probably will) need custom gears (say cogs and Ill cry!) cutting, and that is VERY expensive!

If you dont understand gear system calculations Id recommend looking into the subject from a basic level, books on this are kinda hard to find though....

i ride a gixer u see, so hate the idea of chopping up a perfectly good one! check out www.gixerjunkies.net for engine advice, altho they wont be able to you with the conversion. ;)

Alaina......i understand now.....the reason im not doing this, is that im not that fond of motor bikes themselves...never have....never will
Im just interested in making a monster out of a tiny car.........i hear through the grape vine that some-one in my area has managed to convert a cinq into 4 wheel drive, with 2 ninja engines, one in front and one in rear!!

Gear change i am quite confident about......as i had a long conversation with one of my work colleeges who has rode motor bikes all his life (he's 60 odd) and he drew up a lil sketch of how he thinks it should look like

Tbh, i know this is going to be an extreme makeover and i know i'll probably end up saving my pennies and paying some-one else to do it, which i don't mind because at least then i know it'll be done properly:p

One way of making it more practical as a street car would be to used forced induction, but you'd then have clutch and gearbox issues...............

Otherwise, I don't see much point. It's not going to be practical as a street car, it's not going to be original enough to be a good show car and while the engineering issues are not to be dismissed, the solutions are pretty obvious.

Yes finally some 1 on this forum who is thinking the same as me!
Ive just got my cinquecento sporting as a base,im getting a r1 lump and then the fun begins!
Im in the same boat as you, just been trying to look 4 info, but not finding it,found a few pics to see roughly how it goes,so sod it im gonna have a go!
Soon as i start properly ill start a thread and we'll begin:slayer:
