Admiral.

( Most Easterly Pandas - you'll love this. ;) )

Okay, I called Admiral to declare that I have 'modified' slightly.

I told them that I had put Wind Deflectors on and they didn't have a problem with that and didn't need to know etc.

I then told them about my Osram Night Breaker Plus headlight bulbs. Why did I bother....? :bang:

The chap on the phone said he would have to refer it to the underwriters as he doesn't have an option of his screen for them. (This was last week..)

He's just called me now to say that the underwriters are saying that they need to be approved my the DfT, and that they need to be self leveling and have washers fitted.

So I moaned and stated that they are not HIDs and as such are not subject to that, they are standard fitment, same wattage etc as standard bulbs.

He then said that they would have to put it under - (his words) "Rally/Spot Lights". :bang:  What!?

I pointed out to him that in the event of a claim the insurers may decide to turn around and say that I'd declared something I didn't have on the car and that it could get messy.

So I've asked him to go back to the underwriters and come up with a proper solution that doesn't include a load of bullsh*t.

/rant over (for now)

Yeah, except they don't know that HIDs are!! :ROFLMAO: !

The funny thing about this is the Advisors have no idea about modifications, but the people who work for the underwriters know a lot more about that sort of things, I have been suprised at their knowledge but I guess they see it all. Bet the underwriter set them straight no doubt lol

I wouldn't have even bothered telling them about the bulbs. They are a direct replacement and seen as a consumable. Might as well tell them you've started using Shell VPower instead of regular. They might have to stick it down as a NOS kit :p

I'm thinking of looking at Admiral as I intend keeping my (thirsty) RAV for the winter work it might need to do whilst 95% running a Fiorino Van and since Admiral say they're good for two or more cars' insurance cover it seems a good move, for a comparison anyway.
.
However, if I choose to put alloys on (aftermarket) would that make them think I'm beating up the tarmac of an evening? One can spec alloys from new and that wouldn't raise an eyebrow but because it will come with steels a standard - well.....

Another thought was to upgrade the brakes from single-piston calipers to Brembo (or whoever) 4-piston types - to me that is me improving my stopping power - to them will it look like I intend doing 90mph everywhere? I think the upgrade calipers would involve changing discs too - again, bigger ones to help stopping (284mm to 305mm)

They work in mysterious ways.. :(
