Hi guys,

Well I saw one of these today. Having real bother finding a new car for my budget, and this seems the best option so far.

Its a W reg, 60k on clock, but interior and exterior are mint, and everything is being fixed that needs it.

Does anyone have any experience/opinions on driving this car. Seems a decent spec for the price and insurance is reasonable. Plus being a VW it has a rep for being solid.

My only concern is the age.

Over to you....

If you're hell bent on buying this car - get the Ibiza instead.

I'd say a Fiat 1.2 Punto Mk2 would be just as quick and a more fun drive.
:D

I'm not hell bent, just doesnt seem to be much in my area right now, best I have seen and a decent spec for my budget. Good looking car.

I like the Ibiza too, but havent seen any. Going to a couple more places tomorrow to have a see.

Exactly this but in red:

Go outside your area. For the sake of a tank of petrol (£50?) you could get a few hundred worth of car more.

I'd only buy local if I was expecting to take it back for warranty work - which for a 2nd hand car is unlikely.
Thats the plan tomorrow. A wee bit further afield travel.

Whats thew advantages of the Ibiza over the Polo?

its the same car with a different badge on the bonnet but a lot less to buy as VAG own seat so build quality and reliabilty will be on par with polo, especially the era/age of polo you are looking at.

Only negative is the ibiza obviousaly wont hold its value as well if you are bothered about that sort of thing

I had an S reg Ibiza 1.4 16v.

Was a good little car. Parked next to a Polo one day and loads of parts were obviously the same.

I'm not sure about holding the value. I want something which is going to last me a few years this time. My last two cars have lasted a year a piece and its expensive business.:D

I know they are the same base product.

Or a Skoda Fabia, again its a VW but cheaper...

Could the scrappage thing be of use to you? Fiat are doing deals on 1.1 Pandas just now under the scheme.
I'm just going to be outwith it I think. My MOT is up next week and I'm not paying out to get my Punto through it. I'll have owned the car just under a year at that point.

The Fabia I did look at. £2500 off, but I dont have a regularly high income, so finance could be a stumbling block.

the car you are looking at is 9 nearly 10 years old, i suggest looking at something a bit newer if you want a car to last a fair bit if budgets allow, if budgets dont allow, spend a lot of time giving it a very thorough once over

Yeah ideally I am looking at newer. The guy who owns the dealership is a friend of my mums, so he is keeping an eye open for me. He has a Fiesta which he has to work on first to price it but if its suitable he'll let me see it. 53 plate

Actually I meant an older one. You can get them in the sub 4k area now. Seen a 1.2 04 plate with 20k miles for £3988.

Hmmmm, there is a possibility then.

Where about was that? locally?

If the 53 plate fiesta falls into your budget then they are a good car- i had a mk6 and it was awesome to drive and was bomb proof reliably (and i gave that car a very hard time im embarrassed to say). If you can, plump for Zetec trim as they are well specced.

the polo is ok, but i could live with something that mundane for more than few months, i'd just get bored!
