Virgin Media v+

Virgin Media v+

Interesting thread.... I've got a VM engineer coming out on Thursday to upgrade/install a V+ box and 10MB BB. We're upgrading our Med TV package downstairs and going for a seperate V+ box upstairs.

I've been with VM for a few years now, while they were NTL but the house was cabled at least 10 years ago originally for an NTL cable setup.

I'm hoping the engineer will rewire the house to take the new V+ box as the old cabling suffered some fire damage a few years back which I patched up myself but it suffered from some serious signal issues back when it was in use.

As for the VM box downstairs, not really had any issues with the Samsung box that's there now but the old Pace box was somewhat glitchy. Only issues have been locking up and refusing to reboot the card occasionally but it gets there after the 3rd or 4th atempt.

Will let you know how mine goes.

Ffoxy, are you a VM tech or just happen to know your stuff mate?

So , the vm senior tech arrived today , traced and checked every inch of cable inside / outside the house , repalced every cable connector inside/outside the house , replaced the v+ box(again 4th one) , and reconfigured the wireless to the pc and both laptops-tell you what i could'nt fault the guy, he's gona arrange for the network bit in the green box down the road to be changed because he say the signals not quite what it should be(it turns out my neighbours got the same prob), he said he was surprized as he actually got to see a fault for once!! , give it a day or so .....keep you posted.

Just came home frow work today and they have indeed been in the little green cab outside. Checked the US SNR its its now 30.5db!!!! Result methinks.

Hopefully thats the end of it, hats off to them really I suppose it was sorted quite quick, plus we have people coming tomorrow to do an external rewire.

So , :bang: after nearly 4months of no broadband on 1 laptop at a time , tv picture freezing , going blank , volume control working intermittantly, the v+ box re-booting midway thru a programme and basically whenever it feels like it , taking 10mins to turn on(by hand or remote) and all the other faults iv mentioned during this thread - on tuesday afternoon just gone their senior tech (very nice knoweledgable chap went thru everything in the install) does his magic , weds afternoon it goes t*ts up again ,not even 24hrs of uninterupted viewing since it was installed - at 1500ish today i thru in the towel and cancelled my vm contract, they were very amicable and said due to all the 'issues' they would refund my deposit and not charge me for my last 30days usage!!
All i can say is those that have vm and it works - good luck to you , me - its back to sky+(y) al those who'v replied to this thread i thank you very much but i cant take it anymore

I really dont blame you mate, sounds like youve been more than patient. The network in parts of London is next to useless (so I have been told), some parts of it were still on analogue until not that long ago.

Best of luck with sky.

Thanks mate ,the eng told me that we'v a neighbour having the exact same problems , oh dear.
