Last night i went out and my uno was very difficult to start. The starter motor turned over very slow as if the battery was dead, but after a few turns it sped up to normal. The engine would not fire up though. It took the best part of 2 minutes of turning over before it fired. It misfired badly for a few seconds then ran ok. I drove it for a mile then switched off, started it again and it started better.
This morning it did the same thing again but it continued to misfire and wouldn't run smooth. I can smell petrol coming up to the carb. The way the starter motor is turning it sounds like the valve timing is right out, but it ran and drove ok last night.

Ideas?

Not to worry i found the problem, connection was dodgy for the silver ignition module on the dizzy.

Excellent, I was going to suggest that the timing was over-advanced as that can slow down the engine cranking if it fires against the rising piston. Also, starter motor brushes wear down over time and the starter loses some of its urge.
