General VAT Qualfying?

I’ve seen an Abarth Spider for sale on Auto Trader. It’s a 2017 car and the add says it’s VAT Qualifying and have the price marked + VAT?

Cars over 6 months old don’t have VAT added. I don’t get it! Anyone?

What Does VAT Qualifying Mean?

In the unlikely event you find a used car for which the VAT was originally reclaimed, it will be described by the seller as ‘VAT Qualifying’. This means that a VAT-registered individual or company buying the car solely for business use can reclaim the VAT from the purchase price.

It is also fine for a private buyer to purchase a VAT Qualifying car, but he or she obviously won’t be able to claim the VAT back from the purchase price. In this situation the car ceases to be VAT Qualifying.

Oh I see. So it had a net price + VAT which means the original buyer bought it through a business and claimed the VAT back?

I’ve never come across this before.

Probably as business probably tend to lease more commonly then buy especially with cars

Yes that’s true. I really don’t understand this at all.
