Could someone help me with the my cars registration

I purchased a 500 in a bad way, the bodyshell to far gone to be repaired.Another bodyshell was purchased and i have reshelled everything. The car is now complete minus a few trim parts. DVLA have requested that the vehicle be inspected by an owners club and form 765 be completed to confirm all parts are of that marque and the year of the newest part. All the parts are from a 1969 500 except the bodyshell which shows as 1970 according to its chassis number. This would enable the car to then be issued with a year related plate. They have now voided the original reg number the 1969 car had.

Has anybody come had this before .

Many thanks

Hi Chip.
On an aside, do you still have the old bodyshell? I can think of at least one person here who would have an interest in that.

The DVLA process that you have been asked to go through is just the same as with any car that presents without a V5C logbook. In my case I had an original UK car with number-plates and old green logbook attached but this was not sufficient. I was asked to provide the same certificate from a car-club. In my case I joined the Fiat 500 Club and the responsible person there was able to verify the conformity of my from a series of images which I provided. That satisfied DVLA who initially gave an age-related number and then later, with the documentary evidence gave me the original.

Whilst I do not condone any form of fraudulent behaviour in the registration of vehicles, in your case, there being no apparent intention to make money or mislead, maybe you've been too honest about this and might possibly have been able to register the re-bodied car under the original number. If you had I am sure you wouldn't be the first to do so and it is something that I think I might have spotted happening quite recently on the TV.

when you say dash panel do you mean around the instrument cluster.
If so i have half of it for the 500L ( not round ) for a RHD model If that's of any use?

Regarding my car i just need it inspected by an owners club but nobody associated to me.

Thank you for letting me know. Had a word with my pal and it looks like he will go for modifying a LHD panel to retain the round speedo. The guy is starting to put back together a basket case 500 which out of interest was first registered in Czechoslovakia.
