So helpful! Thanks very much for this.

Sounds like you're a week or so in front of me Peter. My 500L is currently limbering up for it's mot retake.

I picked it up in Italy earlier this year. It's solid, but usual probs - kingpins and those bloody headlights.

Wrong time of year to be sorting it out, but really impatient now with all this registration malarkey!

Thanks again, the Certificate of Conformity stuff had me stumped.
Dan.

Swapping headlights has got to be one of the easier jobs once you get some RHD units Dan.
I just got my V5 and new number today. They also sent back my old document which some people said they would retain.
Just need to finish the rear bearings and get the reg. plates and we're off chewing up the miles:)

Mine is SVR 522H

Hi Tony

I was hoping you might be able to share the Fiat archive email address with me? I am about to send off my V55/5, but have just been told by DVLA that the customs authenticated photocopy of the logbook won't suffice and they require manufacturer confirmation of the date of first registration.

Many thanks,
Steve

Steve I can send you the email address for the homologation person at Fiat UK if you like.
They will be able to get a dating certificate for you which will be good enough for DVLA. It used to be free in the past, however they charge £36 for it nowadays.

You might want to try the Fiat 500 Club in the UK.

They helped me with retaining an old UK number and the process is similar in that they check the chassis number against official records and issue an embossed, stamped, signed certificate which verifies the year on manufacture.
In my case I found that the car was made one year before it was registered.
I was offered a deal which covered the first years membership of the club as well. This was optional but seemed fair and a good deal to me.

I am still awaiting my original number but it's only a week since I sent it off.

Just sent it to you a PM Steve.

Should I send my Italian log book/service book in or just photo copies of the 2 pages that show the age of the vehicle? I have also placed the chassis plate next to it when photo copying. I really don't want to lose the log book as it has all the original service stamps in it.

They explicitly ask for original, but some have got away with copies. If you're not in a rush and can cope with the delay of being rejected, try a good colour copy first. Then if they bounce back you'll have to send in originals.

Either way, I think it's a good idea to include an additional copy and circle plus label important items like date of first registration etc. so there is no confusion. I didn't do this first time round and they missed the year, and used the later date of when it's was re-registered on classic plates, so I had to apply again.

cheers, Steve
