The uconnect 5 on my car no longer recognises the USB port.

The port still has power to it but I can no longer play any music from the flash drive I use.

I can still play music by using bluetooth on my phone.

I have reset the head unit through the system menu on the head unit to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Thanks in advance.

Careful there, others reported display being frozen on Fiat logo and Fiat came with no real solution for it. It's an uconnect error, apparently it's not very reliable system.
Have you tried connecting other flash drive or phone to the port to see if the port is totally not communicating or is just not communicating with that specific flash drive?
It might be due to the way you formatted the flash drive, NTFS or FAT32 or whatever there is.
Did you use this flash drive before and it worked? Did you add more music files on it? Maybe uconnect has a limited number of files on drive it can read and if you surpass that it's not reading it anymore.

It was working when I parked up and wouldn't work when I used the car next time. The flash drive was left connected.

Check its contents on a PC, then copy and Slow format the stick.
(and see if it reports it's advertised capacity whilst you're at it)

Then if all that goes well, just stick a couple of tunes on it and test again

What brand and model is the stick ?

I don't know the location of the socket on your vehicle, but could it have got kicked accidentally ?

I've tried various sticks - none are recognised.

The port still charges anything put in there so I'm guessing some sort of problem in the head unit(?).

It is an uconnect system error, it has lots of them.
There's this thread here, the error was repeatedly rebooting, the initiator manage to fix it by reinstalling uconnect files although when getting the files was told the system was updated.
Don't know if that can help you in any way. You can try to contact the Fiat personnel on that site, although it looks like they never helped anyone, they didn't come with a real solution despite the fact that many many uconnect errors have been reported.

An update...

I removed the uconnect and disconnected the usb from the rear of the unit. I then plugged a usb lead straight into the back of the uconnect and attached the usb. The uconnect then started to play the music from the usb.

I guess this implies that the positive and/or negative data signal wires are open circuit as the charging part of the usb still works. I'm stuggling to remove the panel that contains the usb. It looks as though the upper centre console (which holds the heater and a/c controls) has to be removed and the usb panel taken out from the rear. I have removed the heater and a/c control panel and 2 screws holding the upper centre console but the console still feels solid.

My question is - does anyone know how to remove the upper centre console panel?
Thanks for any help.

Found elsewhere on the internet :

.....Pull the heater controls off. Remove two screws, pop the panel under the steering column out, pull the entire surround out, remove all the wire clips............

Does that help?

That's exactly how to do it except I didn't need to take any panel under the steering column off. Just needed a hefty pull to pop the clips.

I unplugged the both connectors from the aux/usb unit and the uconnect unit threw an error and wouldn't work. Reconnecting the big (not usb) enabled the radio.

As plugging a usb stick directly into the back of the uconnect unit worked I now assume the aux/usb input box is faulty. I have ordered a second hand one and will report back.

Thanks for the help and advice.
