got a usb memory stick, and plugged in my laptop and its meant to be plug and play for xp & 2000, but it asked for driver so put the driiver disk in and oh thats just windows 98. :bang: what can i do?

Driver discs for USB sticks are normally only for 98 as they don't automatically have USB Mass Storage Drivers. 2000 / XP should plug n play, you tried searching for driver over the net?
It would help if you could actually list the manfacturer and model aswell

its called- 256mb usb flash disk - no manfacturer or anything
Unplug the device first.
Go to control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager
Make sure there isn't any problems with your USB port(s) and check under disk drives, should only be your hard drive(s) under that.

well under that its just 1 thing which is my harddrive, usb working cos i use it for my modem.
Plug the device in.
You could try two things...
1) If XP still won't see it, leave it in and restart the machine.
2) Run the add hardware wizard under control panel.
The only other explaination would be the USB stick is shagged.

I don't know about lap tops if they have 2 ports if they have just swap the modem around see if that works had similar problem with a USB hub memory would not work swapped connection around with scanner all working OK
