Just had 2 wonderful letters from the new local Stoneacre dealer (Goole East Yorkshire) Strange thing is I have never had a car from them

big red heading "Urgent Vehicle Recalls And Technical Improvements".... outlining that the car manufacturer may have issued a safety recall

My Mother has also has the same 2x letters however she has had a car from the franchise before it changed hands so was in a bit of a panic.....

Quick look on VOSA and there are no outstanding recalls on my Punto or mums KA so got on the phone to them laid it down outright asking why the hell they had sent me a recall letter even though i hadn't got the car from them only to be told that there was a mistake at head office

then mum rung them relating to the car wanted to know the cars reg then promptly came out along the lines of you haven't had your car serviced for X years clearly trying to drum up work by scaring people into contacting them IMO

will attach a copy of the letter shortly...

Its a bit naughty that Andy..........

In my experience recall notices are issued via the manufacturer, VOSA and the DVLA, not the local dealer. However any dealer will know instantly via the reg no if there are any outstanding recalls on the vehicle in question as I am sure you know. I see it as an obvious attempt to drum up some probably much needed business at the expense of some peoples ignorance, concerns, maybe even fear. In their defence they will take the moral high ground and claim they are acting in the best interest of the customer which in effect they are but their chosen way of conducting this campaign with "shock tactics" is very questionable. I dont think they are breaking any laws but all the same that letter will scare some people and as a result Trading Standards might be interested.

I would find 5 minutes to call TS, have a word and see if they will accept a complaint against them as a result......but thats the type of guy I am

The letter needs to be read carefully, but I giuess most folks look for the negative.

Yup, they are trying to drum up business, but isn't everyone, thats what business is about.

I actually think its quite clever, please note the use of the word 'quite'.

It does say at no expense, but I bet there would be a sell up when you get there, but thats business.

You'll be screwed if you do need them and they've gone bust.

Cheers

I can check if it does have anything outstanding if you supply the reg or VIN

It may be a tactic to get you and the car into the dealership!

Thanks Chris i got the car from a different dealership probably got my name when i ordered parts (ford) for my dads car a while back wanted name and address when i placed the order...

thanks for the offer though pm to be sent better be safe than sorry

Tell them to f*ck off, I had car in at AC recently & they wanted my email address:mad:

I take fasteriskck off is a technical expression detailing that a particularly obscure part required removal and subsequent replacement. Strange 'cause using the automotive section of wikipedia brings up no answers for a fasteriskck

;)

And anyway using such language, I should report you to a mod. Oh hang on, you are THE mod :D
