My dad got a recorded delivery letter from Fiat this morning saying there was an urgent recall on certian Stilos. We went up to Arnold Clark and the boy said there was a possiblity that you can drive down the road and the steering can fail, and to get the car up there ASAP. He also mentioned something about the possibility of needing a new steering rack!!!!!

So the car is up there now. Who knows when we will see it again??????? :!: :!: :!:

Knowing AC .... no time before September 2012.

Seriously though, the amount of recalls on Fiat's is unreal - does any other manufacturer ever have so many?!

Every single Fiat we have owned-
1x Uno Turbo
3x Tipos
3x Puntos (Except my new 1)
1x Seicento
1x Stilo
Has been in for at least one recall- The seicento was sold years ago and we got a letter through a few months back for a re-call on it

To be fair to them, none of them were "Urgent".(Except the Stilo)

recalls are quite a common occurance for some manufacturers, as some quirks of a car are not discovered untill the car is actually being bought by the public.

Even the new mini has had a few recalls, including one for a problem with the fuel filler being made live due to some electrical fault if i remember right!

am i right in thinking a manufacture doesnt need to re-call a car by Law if something is wrong with it?

I got told it was up to them to decide to re-call it. :?

I'd hope not.

Effectively if theres a flaw with the car, and they deny any knowledge of it (ie dont do a recall) it's more hastle in legal proceedings when joe public discovers it was a fault that the manufacturer should have rectified!

lol did anyone read Auto Express a while back ?

In the States there was a recall of Toyota Jeeps and some Ford F-150's or a similar car. Ranging from 1982 to 2000. Millions were/are affected.

Reassuring that is

ok, quick update. the cars in the process of getting a brand new steering rack fitted.
The mechanic said there was a flaw in the manufacturing of the old one and it was out by one thousand of an inch!!!!
However, if anyone has had a recall through the post, they are advising owners to take the car in ASAP!!!!
Getting it back tomorrow morning
