Hello all!

As an ongoing Fiat weirdo, I've bought a 2012 500 pop to keep my Panda 100hp company

It's a 1.2 5 speed with just over 84k on it & drives spot on. Everything works, even the start/stop

There is an annoying issue with the upshift light

It comes on even in 5th gear on the motorway when I've no gears left! Around town it behaves as it should with a prod on the throttle extinguishing it rather than change down

I checked the gearbox & it's a 500 5 speeder so it's not been replaced with one from another model & whilst I had it on the lift I topped the gearbox oil up (only needed about 400ml)

Is there a sensor which needs cleaning or replacing? It's doing my fruit in...

Peace & love

That's quite odd, would be great if all of a sudden an extra gear appeared in the gearbox and you have a six speed box - ha ha!

No seriously though, does it display upshift on all the other gears, i.e. 1 - 2, 2 - 3, 3- 4. I ask the question, just thinking because if perhaps it didn't display an upshift on say gear 1 - 2, the ecu is out of sync and thinks second gear is first - if that makes sense.

Kind regards

I'm no tuner but upshift indicators generally base their decision on a selection of rpm, engine load %, throttle position, road speed and current gear iirc.

Maybe you could get some live data read by a passenger from some obd plugin, might give you an insight into what's going on out of the ordinary.
There'll probably be a corresponding table/map of data in the ECU, and possibly that data is messed up, or maybe a sensor misreporting.

Was the shift light standard on a 2012 pop?

The Younger Mrs S' 2013 has the "Shift" come up in the console and it's the most basic version of Pop (it has Stop-Start but otherwise nothing).

There was a change of console around 2011/12 though, so I wonder if you have a console type that doesn't have it.

I'll post a photo of the console, so you can compare.
