I've just bought a 2016 1.2 Petrol Fiat 500 Pop Star after my 52 plate Mini One has completely broken down after many attempts to get it fixed. I bought the car online from a fiat garage and they delivered it to my house this morning, it was a quick buy as I really need a car to get to and from uni/placement. However, after doing a little more digging (I know I should have done this before I bought the car) I saw that watchdog test drove a fiat 500 and it struggled to get uphill even in 1st gear, and this is apparently due to the revamp they've done on the engine, the car they did drive though was a 63 plate.. I'm basically wondering if anyone who has a 2016 fiat 500 1.2 has struggled to get uphill? I am really desperate to know as I am on placement at a hospital in Bath which requires me to get up really really steep hills to get there, as I am coming from Bristol it's nearly impossible to avoid this. After my Mini broke down on me so much I'm quite a nervous driver and just want reassurance that it will be okay and that fiat have fixed the problem in newer models of the car?

Hi, and welcome, :)
the watchdog thread is several years old.. and only a percentage of the engines suffered..
it was a bit odd all round.

coming from a mini, you'll need to adjust your driving style a little - as the FIRE engines like to be revved:cool: - how Italian..:D

A friend had her mini written off ,
and has taken a while to adapt to her "little ferrari"..

Ah okay that makes me feel much better then! And yes hahaha I have noticed that, takes a lot of getting used to as the steering is way lighter and the clutch is so different but I really do love my new car!

When moving away, and especially uphill, be sure to push the accelerator a little before you find the clutch bite point. Then as the clutch rises, more accelerator. If you bring the clutch up first, it will probably bog down and either struggle, or not go at all.
