Grande Punto Uphill power loss

Please help,I have had my 2008 they now for 2 days. It has absolutely no power when going uphill, even a slight gradient requires a gear change. I will be taking it to my mechanic ASAP but would appreciate any help. Could the turbo not be working? Thanks

Hi Clive,

It may help to know when the car was last serviced, how many miles are on the clock, what engine it is, are there any warning lights on the dash?

Regards
Stephen

If it's a lower powered engine such 1.2 or 1.4 petrol, perfectly normal. It's a heavy car being powered by an engine not for a heavy car.

the "mexican spec " are a 5.0 V10..,
so it's definitely NOT right..!!;)

as posted above,
if they've had the car 2 x days, either return it , or fix it

if it's down to you to fix it, give us more info, (y)
engine , fuel and mileage are always a good start along with ANYTHING you've done to it.. even filling with fuel.. if it's so new to you, :)

If it's that bad mate take it back whilst your under warranty. No harm and no cost then, but I have a 1.4 starjet and she struggles up the hills terribly. I think it's just a GP thing. The GPs drive quite differently to other cars I've driven so it took me a few weeks to get used to how to drive it and what she needs and when she needs it.

Thanks for your comments. 86000 km on the clock, 1.4 turbojet engine. No modifications as I know

no warning lights at all..??,

remove the cartridge from the air-filter, and have a quick /short drive, :)
if there's a VAST improvement.. you need a new filter element..,
don't go without for long though..as it's a great baffle for keeping flood water out of your cylinders ;)

What speeds and gears are you using on what gradient hills? I have a t-jet 120 engine in my bravo which is a much heavier (and nicer ;):p) car. And it has absolutely no issues pulling me up a hill. I fact I can easily accelerate up a steep hill using 3rd gear at low speeds (20-30mph). But if your attempting to accelerate up a hill in 4th gear at 30pmh you will have issues as there just isn't enough torque.

Btw I'm kidding with the nicer car before you all start haha. I was GP owner once (y)

No hissing sound, taking it to mechanic tomorrow, hope its something that can be fixed.
BTW, on a slightly steep hill I can't leave 3 gear and no faster than around 40 mph.

does it boost (my friends car today the waste gate actuator rod fall down of the internal waste gate) and there was no torque at all:bang:

Hi all and thanks for all your comments. So got my car back from mechanic, diagnosis is simply that the turbo is fried and actually temporarily cancelled. Can't wait to get it fixed to see how its supposed to drive. Saludos from Mexico
