you can exchange it for a 1.6/1.8 or 2.0, cos 1.4 is always gonna struggle.

not really sorry to say you can do the stage 1 mods i.e. induction kit, exhaust + de-cat but whatever you do it will struggle with only having 12 valves

You'd actually be supprised at the number of 12v engines out there. The 1.4 is not **** due to only having 12 valves, its **** for alot of other reasons!

Honda had a few, the 1.3 carb'd 12v was 72BHP in 1986, 40+MPG as well! (had one in my old rover 213)
Merc had a few 12v engines (4cyl not 6), the old 230 was 12v 4cyl.
Its a halfway house between 8v and 16v, less complex (1 cam), revvier than 8v, torquier than 16v, its just fiat really stuffed up! I think they took the old 1.4 8v block and put a new head on it and then put the dire monotronic injection system on it just to make sure it was crap.

I don't know any car that works well with the monotronic injection system. It was a Bosch attempt to make a system that could be fitted to carb'd engines using the same manifold.
