Got a call from the dealer today, car has finally been built, it's in transit but will take 3 weeks to get here? I did wonder if they were 'pushing' it here lol, why does it take do long?

Hi Mick

Fiats come to the UK via boat when built in Italy (Punto, Bravo, new Panda) or Poland (old Panda & 500). The Qubo & Doblo also travel by boat at some point on their journey to the UK but i dunno if they get the boat directly from the Turkish coast (they're made in Turkey) or whether they travel by train to the port in Italy first & then catch the boat with the Italian-built models.

Either way, the boat section of the journey is quite slow & then the car will sit at the docks in Portbury near Bristol until the transporter has a full-load going to your locality, then it's transported by road to your dealership. Once it arrives it's usually about a week for the dealer to register, tax & PDI the car, then you can usually collect it. 3 weeks is about right from this point i think :)

Thx for that Liam, just wondered why it took so long, at the beginning I was told I would get the car in 12 weeks, It was ordered 21st march and I'm impatient haha :)

No probs (y)

8-12 weeks seems the norm for Fiat/Alfa. All my Fiat's have been 2nd hand but the Parents 500 took 7 weeks from order to arriving at the dealer, then a further week before it was ready to collect, but that came out of the Polish factory which does seem to fire out the 500s at a pretty quick rate considering the amount being sold.

Maybe because the sales volumes are higher on the 500 than the rest of the models, the factory is more geared-up for it than the others. Even so, 12 weeks for the Qubo is a far cry from some of the 6-12 month waits that some customers of VW Group or Hyundai have been enduring recently!
