Hello all,

just changed rear brake shoes tonight on my TD 100 bravo van, a b*****d of a job as the drums would'nt come off easily. had to gradually screw in bolts in the other two holes, while also gradually rotating the drum and tapping the shoes inwards using the hole on the outside of the drum. The drums were not badly worn however.

Not having seen the bravo drums before, I screwed the self adjusters in a bit to allow the drums to go back on easily. I also opened one of the bleed nipples to allow the pistons go back into the cylinder. this of course let air in, but when i tried to bleed them, it didnt go to plan. no fluid was coming, and pedal didnt sink to floor, i.e it was still relatively hard.

Two questions ..

1. Whats the best way to set the adjusters before putting back on drums ?.

2. Does the bravo have a load proportioning valve, and where is it (Mine is a van) ?. would this explain the bleeding difficulty ?

All help appreciated..

BTW, is there a haynes manual covering the diesels ?. All i can find are for petrol engine bravo's.

Owen.

The Brakes are the Same on the diesel and petrol versions.

U have to turn the wheel 3 until it gets to the spring 7, then turn it a 1/2 way more.

The Haynes covers the whole car, but for the engine you must buy a Poters manual.

Re : Bravo brakes

Hi Sven,

thanks for the illustration, however my adjusters look slightly different. there is a springy piece of steel which has the rachet attached instead of the spring shown in the pic. when the two ends of the adjuster are compressed, this also gets compressed and it turns the adjuster when it releases again. I just set them in with about a turn left. they seem to be workin though.

Also, where can one get the porters manual for the engine ? ebay ??.
