OK iv'e heard a lot about the dreaded Timing belt or Cambelt or whatever it is , and that it needs changed faster than Fiat recommend.

Re: Re: Untitled

I have a 1999 S reg 1.6 SX with 44k on the clock. My mate off the FC forum works at Fiat in Southampton. He quoted me £166 for parts and labour including the tensioner.

I'm gonna book mine in for the next couple of weeks. I'll ask if i can organise for a bunch of u lot to have the work done too with discount.

I must say i think the 1.4 engine is the problematic of the lot (some fact and some hearsay). Just have a mechanic look at it, and if the tensioner looks / sounds dodgy; change it.

I have a 99T 1.8 with 32k miles that's due for a service in March. I was planning to get the cambelt + pre-tensioner done (~£120), but probably won't now as planning to change cars. It's better to be safe than sorry - some last, some don't.

Re: Re: Untitled

Get it done now - its five years old. Fiat recommend 72k or five years which ever comes first. Personally 45 odd k or five years is better.
