Hey everyone,

I recently bought a seicento sporting, privately from about 40 miles away from my house.

I want to pick the car up at the weekend, however its not taxed. I dont want to tax it until the beginning of next month, i'm perfectly happy to not drive it, however i need to get it home.

What would the situation be if i drove the car home with no tax? if i got caught what are the penalties, and would i be let off as i genuinely have no other way to get it home.

Also the car would still be registered to the old owner as far as the old bill are concerned, so would she get the fine?

Easy this one!

Book it in for an MOT very close to your house. Pick it up and drive it straight home. If you get stopped you can advise them you are on the way to the MOT centre to get the test done so you can tax it. It is perfectly legal to do this. I know - I have done it and got away with it even when I was four hours early and decided a Kebab was in order :)

Then if you dont get stopped, leave it off the road until next month.

Oh and dont forget to cancel the test!

Re: Re: Untitled

its already MOT'd so i could tax it anyway

does that mess the plan up?

sounds good otherwise.

Re: Re: Re: Untitled

Get the form from the PO, complete it with the days date include a cheque and keep in your car.

When stopped you are about to get the tax. Worked for me when i was genuinely on the way to the PO.

Re: Great Cunning plan

Right i'm picking it up from manchester way on saturday morning. Although im insured i wont have the cover note by then, not in manchester at least.

So i will fill in the road tax form, write out a cheque, then drive 40 miles home and hope for the best.

U reckon i should also book an MOT appointment then Nige?

Re: Re: Great Cunning plan

Dont do both!!! Do one or the other. I thought you didnt want to back date the tax which is why you do it the MOT way.

If you tell the police both stories you will get sussed.

Good luck young fugative...
