but those renault 5 turbos only run 11s for that run then they turn the boost down and dont thrash it.

im trying to get mine into the 13s (which shouldnt be a prob) but run the same boost day in and day out. :D

p.s. white UTs do look top!

I've met a guy who ran hi 11's and low 12's secs 1/4 on everyone of his 12 runs at Santa Pod earlier this year with a car that has covered 150,000miles on original engine and uses it every day to get to and from work. K-Tec racings 330bhp 5 had 225,000miles on it as well.

And to be honest why would anyone run about everywhere thrashing there car as thats just stupid and gives modded cars and the people who mod them a bad name, I'm all for having a blast as good as the next guy but with all turbo cars respect has to be given or they come back and bite especially with UNOs as there are so few left due to ill conceived mods like bleed valves being used melting pistons/engines blowing turbo's etc etc

The whole point is off having adjustable boost is as I know from having 5's is you save fuel if you run less boost on say a motorway run when you really don't need it, its still there at the very quick and easy turn of a knob, which is a controlled way of running boost. It was also good in winter where big dollops of torque really don't help matters when its icy etc or for letting the engine warm thro before giving it some.

Aaron, i totally agree, but most 5 turbos are only setup and run that boost on the strip. i dont think k-tec racings 5 turbo could handle its full boost day in and day out at 330bhp, it would soon blow up, especially on a track day. My aim is to get into the 13s, running a fair whack of boost but still be strong enough to run like that on the road and on track days, not just for a 13 sec period at a time up the strip.

to be fair i have a bleed valve and i know its not the best way but i do have a very strong engine. i always run mine at high boost as i feel that if im putting my foot down i want to be able to get the full power out of it and if im not booting it i may as well still have the boost wound up but just dont plant ur foot. i must admit, to work and back and tootling around i dont even come on boost but i know that if i fancy a blast, the boost is already set to its max and i dont have to mess around with it. its been properly setup on a rolling road and therefore i dont like to mess with the in car bleed valve.

when i had my 5 turbo it just kept pressurising the sump and blowing oil out the dipstick! changed alsorts and still kept doing it so i got rid.

my fiesta rs turbo was ok, except the gay boost limiter which prevented u from winding it up lol! but a chip soon sorted that out :D

I ran mine everyday on full boost for at least half my journey and i used to commute from Bournemouth to Cardiff for 6 weeks which is 150miles both ways and ran it from Bournemouth to Glasgow a good few times which is 475miles and never ever had a failure of any sort. I ran the car at Knockhill as well.

And i get reunited with my 5 tomorrow as my mate Dan is bringing it up from London as he has had it the last 3 years on which it has passed every MOT 1 st time in his tenure and again never broken down, how many UNo turbo's running 188bhp 212lbs/torque on only 16psi of boost do that :)

It all comes down to development really, there just isn't the depth of knowledge of UNO as there is for 5 in this country at least, but I still love the UNO cos its a nice clean looking car that unfortunately do not seem to last too well, hence the low numbers of them on our roads.

Good luck with yours tho as I have been reading your restore thread.

Thanks guys, Those Renault 5's are 1400cc motors??? Cause running 11's turbo alone is awesome, got any specs???
