Hi everyone,

After pulling the engine out to have welding done. I changed the belt tensioner plugs and leads etc. Plumbed it all up and no bang.

This is were Im at any suggestions will be most grateful.

I have set the crankshaft tdc up and the camshaft tdc together. Have set the distributor to point at plug 4 you know with the little groove slit on distributor body.

Have fuel and sparks but no bang.

Not sure if I have done something wrong with timing or ignition. 1342 is the order I have the leads. I am now unable to remove the crankshaft pulley as the engine is all back in car and I don't have a air gun to get it off. Though I went by the little pointer and slit in pulley. Also the notch is aligned with the tdc sensor.

I am pretty sure my vacuum leads are correcly fitted there was only 2 I was unsure with the one which goes into the t junction which feeds into the inlet msanifold next to fuel return thing. and the other which goes directly under the throttle body. This one I fed to the swan neck you sent me and the other goes to the dump valve and fuel return thing.

I ken its really hard to diagnose stuff without seeing it I can take pictures but is there any basic tests I can do to make sure the ecu's are working the only electrics I dont have connected is the 2 wires to gear box reverse light I expect and the oil pressure sender.

Hope you spot a simple error or can think of something I missed

Cheers,

Tony..

surely the oil pressure sender needs to be connected up? other wise the ecu wont know if theres is any pressure and wont start? could be a problem worth a check

Hi there,

I did think this but my oil presure switch goes straight to the dash. To be completly honest I have stuck this engine into a X1/9 so it's a mix and match of compnents.

I presumed she would still fire up but if didn't detect any oil presuure then would shut down. I maybe be doing all the wrong things.

A friend of mine who is well known on here Rachael has sent me the following to try.

Hi and merry Christmas! Here are a few things to try:

How do you know you have fuel? Can you smell it from the exhaust? Are the plugs wet at all? I need to see photos of how you have plumbed all the intake piping.

You need also to confirm the cam timing. Check TDC by the flywheel notch in the bellhousing window. Take off the cam housing cover and confirm that the no. 4 cams are both pointing away from the valve buckets at about "ten to two". The no. 1 valves should be at "twenty past eight".

Unplug the throttle valve switch and see if it runs then.

Unplug the over-boost switch and see if it runs then.

If you give the engine a quick spin on the starter, does the fuel pump run for a few seconds after you have released the key?

Fuel injection wiring loom: How have you wired the twin relays? Or do you have just one large (blue?) relay? There should be a thick red wire that connects to permanent live - it usually goes to the same terminal as the battery cable on the starter motor. There should be a thin white/black wire that connects to the X1/9's pink wire that used to go to the x1/9 coil + terminal. This feeds the FI ecu. There should also be two red wires that connect to the pink wire as well, these feed the ignition ecu. There should be a brown/white wire that goes to the fuel pump.

How have you plumbed your fuel pump? FI pumps don't like drawing up through the X1/9 fuel pickup pipe at the top of the tank.

Let me know how you get on!

So will try this and get back on my findings.

Thanks,

Tony.

I would have checked all basic stuff first

-does the engine get gas?
-does it get to much/ too little?
-does it get air? again, to much/little
-do you have a spark on the sparkplugs?
-check your sparkplugs, sparkplug leads(measure ohm), the coil.
and so on

good luck;)

Hi all thanks for your help and input.

Got her started didn't have the throttle switch sensor thing set up right.
Adjusted and all ok.

However what is the other little microswitch on otherside of throttle body?

And what pipe connects to the little metal one under the throttle body and whats it used for?

Cheers
