As title says, has anyone tried this? will it work? will it be good?

i remember from people doing conversions on their X1/9's in the past that the unoT engine is just a X1/9 1500 with a smaller bore and a turbo. that means its a very old engine design now, but also a proven one that is easy to work on. its much less of an electrical nightmare than a more modern engine, so you could DIY it easily enough.

you cant fit your punto's box to the uno engine. the unoT gearbox has a longer 1st and shorter final drive but it does match the engine nicely and the weight difference is not too significant between the cars (punto 8v only has 15kgs more for example) so i think it would work well with the unoT gearbox.

performance wise, i doubt its going to be quicker than a mk2b sporting. the sporting does 0-60 in 9.3secs. the unoT does it in 8.3secs. i think you'll lose a second compared to the uno due to extra weight so expect it to be as fast as a mk2b sporting, but double the amount to insure and less fuel efficient. do it for fun, dont do it expecting a fast car or cheap ownership.

also remember there is no way you'll be able to pass an MOT due to emissions. the unoT didnt even have a cat, if you stick one on you'll sap power and torque, costing you more performance, although you may be able to pass an MOT without destroying performance too much if you used a 100cell sports cat or similar and got the fueling adjusted for MOT time.

My uno turbo came with a cat, but i remove it for mot time very easy, no punto sporting will be a match for a ut lump, Torque! mine is only mildly tuned and proves itself everytime, Ant!

it's older than that even, the aurelio lampredi designed sohc goes all the way back to 1969, first seeing action in the 128
