Tuning Uno - RWD conversion

Hi all,

I think just about all race inspired cars have a flat bottom, whether they are indeed race cars, track cars or whatever. Look at the Elise for example - to name just one.

'Ground effect' in the true sense may be something totally our of your reach ( i dont know just how low you need to be..), but what air does leave the back of the car from underneath should, if possible be as laminar as you can get it - thats common sense if you think about it. Diffusers are very simple to look at, but apparently tricky to get 'right'.

Considering the fabricating you're going to do its as good as free to make your car far more slippery at the end of the day...

Levan - if you are running a prop and exhaust pipe down the middle (eg you're making a tunnel regardless) then design it in such a way that keeps it 'up' above the sill height allowing you to plate over it.

If you box the chassis and tunnel as well as adding a load-bearing cage you could plate the bottom with alloy.

4 vs 6. I found myself reading somewhere (god knows where now - you know what a 'google' session can be like) that some of the newer BMW engines are significantly lighter than the old ones, and you may find a 6 lighter than an old 4 - you never know - are the new lot all alloy blocked?

If you're cutting the bulk head, an extra 4 - 6" (max) will make no odds would it not?, and i dont think you should assume the height would be any different either, but i'm just guessing.

Porsche GT2 Racecar
Built in 2003, this car is fitted with a full FIA roll cage with a quasi space-frame construction at the front while still retaining McPherson strut suspension. The car has single piece bodywork at the front and rear and has been subjected to an extensive lightening program. A GT2 gearbox is installed with a 3.4 litre twin turbo engine. The car weighs under 1000kgs with over 500bhp! Front wheels measure 10x18" with large 12.5x18" rears. The car features custom roll-bars, suspension members and a flat bottom all made by us in house, along with everything else on the car.

Though i will say Wiki suggests a fan and a narrowing (i assume its not actually clear) 'tunnel' for want of a better word. Less pressure = downforce faster air under car = downforce flat bottom = downforce

if you want something quick on the track fit a delta engine, will be easier, faster and cheaper,
