Hi All,

My 1100 Uno has developed a small problem that has got me a bit bewildered. Every morning for years she has started fine, I use a little choke and she's away. However the other morning I started her and she was idiling very roughly, no matter how the choke was positioned the idel would go up and down and genrally run 'lumpy'. I suspected some dirt in the idle jet of the carb so I cleaned the jet and she was idleing much better after that. I also replaced the inline fuel filter at the same time. However the engine performance felt like it was just not 'quite there'. I know the car well, having owned and worked on her for the past six years and I knew she wasn't 'happy'! I then removed the carb and did a full clean of it, not that I found much anyway but I blew all the jets out and checked the float level, etc. After refitting it I checked the distributor vacuum advance unit, which I had replaced about two years ago and I found the diaphram was punctured. I bought a new unit and replaced it. The idle is now fine again, as is the morning start up but she has this slight hesitation when driving, almost as if the engine is still not fully warmed up, which of course it is. She pulls quite well under acceleration and the hesitation is very slight, almost like wind tugging at the car and trying to hold her back. I'm at a bit of a loss now as to what could be the problem. The plugs were replaced when I did the carb, the ignition leads were replced a couple a services ago, the distributor electronics were replaced when I did the plug leads, so I'm now stuck! Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance.

I am assuming that you checked the timing.

I had an issue with this after I changed the cam gear seal. It just would not pull properly.

I also had a hesitation on acceleration, which I think was something to do with the accelerator pump. It went away when I swapped carburetor, but I still have to fix the old one!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I've discovered what the problem was and fixed it! It would seem that maybe the cam belt had jumped one tooth on startup, (no idea how, as it's quite tight enough), I checked the timing with a strobe with the vacuum pipe disconnected and she was very retarded on the timing. I set her to the correct specs and she runs perfectly again!
