Technical uno fire rev counter

Is there any reason why a on dash rev counter needle will jump around below 3000rpm? the signal gets picked up from the "missing" terminal om the coil.

sounds like typical fiat electrics

posibly unstable pulse from the coil? is it just a single coil or does it have two? if it has two try changing to the other coil
