i know I asked this just the other week but im curious and would like a definate answer if possible.

would it be possible to convert a 999cc Uno IE Start to a Punto 60 1.2 engine?

I know that yes it would go but would it be a straight and simple swap and use the same gearbox etc?

or how about the 1.1 Uno engine. would it be a straight swap for the 999cc?

Not sure about the punto engine. i know the punto GT lump is a straight swap for the Uno turbo lump... Same logic may apply.

For the 1.1 engine, it probably would be a straight swap. it looks like in the haynes manual they're pretty much built the same. but for the work, money and hassle, is the extra 100cc worth it?? The 999cc can be tuned up well with balancing etc to about 98bhp so i was reading somewhere

yeah the 999cc is a good engine.. but comparing the 999cc uno to my 1108cc cinq sporting.. the difference is there!

i dont know how it compares to the 1106cc uno engine but ide asume they were pretty similar.

Im seems to me you're overlooking 1 major factor... Weight. Im pretty sure the kerb weight of the cinq is alot less that the uno - which is where your difference will be. IF you put the 1108cc engine into the uno, it prob wont shift anywhere near as much

yup i do realise that, its just the difference will be noticable. and considering it would be an easy extra 10hp then why not heh. but really ide be lookin for the 1.2

You might as well try for the 1375cc (or roundabout that mark) from teh Uno 70... They've got plenty of poke as far as im aware :) 70bhp is alot more poke than the standard 45bhp from teh 999cc

:p then again i might just keep the 999cc... but its on 92000 miles now so prob wont last that much longer.. although atthe moment it seems to be pulling really well.. the cars mint and seems like its had an easy life

 The uno engines keep going forever!! Mind mines only done about 63k

The 999cc engine seems to be a fairly simple enough block to maintain anyway so only minor work may need doing to keep it going forever more anyway.

What about the Uno 75 i.e. 75 BHP. 1.5 litre engine. There are some of this one in Norway, but no MkII turbos were imported. So I guess I have to import on myself at a later time.

Morten.

Im just thinking aloud really.....

but would a Tipo engine fit? Say the 1.6? :D

Has anyone done this conversion or know of anyone/ website that has done it?

This sounds good, a 1.6 Uno would be great!

The reason im thinking more about a tipo engine is that you can pick up a minter really cheap, and the price of UT/PuntoGT lumps are getting too expensive.
