Technical uno diesel not starting sometimes.

Hi all, i have just picked up a uno diesel van and i am having a bit of trouble with it. Its been driving perfectly but later today i was parked on a very slight hill (the front of the van was facing up the hill) and i tried to start it and waited for the diesel light to go off, but when i try to start the engine it doesnt do anything (no clicks, no turning over, nothing). me and a mate of mine tried the jump leads but still nothing, but as soon as i pushed the van so it was facing down the hill, it started. I am now completely

Electrical contacts? Starter motor?

The things i was thinking of were - starter and bad earth, but i dont know where the earth is, and the same with the starter

edit - i was going to ask if anybody has a uno diesel starter for sale, but it looks like only the tipo 1.7D has the same type of starter
