HI steve nz we all know you sold your UT to fiatdown under, just been looking at your new punto gt on puntosports, looks like a good project for you, definately needs a tug on that leg i've replaced over 30 punto legs in my time and they always kink down, the strut top never moves as is far back, but usualy end up giving them a tug on the jig and then graft a new part of the leg in hopefully you may escape with a pull, thats why a lot of punto's have shhite gaps at the front they only need a tap and down they go! not to keen on the colour tho! we used to call it **** metallic (yellowish ****) soz mate!! but its not as bad as the green shhite colour they did them in, good luck with your new baby! DEFECTOR!! ANT

The plot thickens. I had an email from Steve with some first pics... so go on Steve, fill us in on your repair... though it will be in completely the wrong area, a Punto in the Uno forum... ;)

Or ANT, you could give us a link y'know, where is this 'puntosports'? I'll do a Google search... :)

i flick through puntosports now and again as the gt tuning is on the same lines as my mk2 ie, he's hiding in the turbocharged model section under banger gt he he !

You don't arf get about matey, looking at your pics defo needs a pull but is easily repairable, may get away with using a body dozer, do you know anyone (bodyshop with a jig) we would charge 1 hour to load and 2 for the pull and measure about £100, cheap! Ant!

Thanks for the Tip. Im not one for much body work. Lucky there is a pannel beater next to where I work. One guy took a look at it, said it was not too bad. Would probably need to be put on the caroliner to pull it up though, what you think?

Puntos are not all that common here. The guy I spoke too had not done one before by the sound of it. He was concerned where exactly to pull it as the front looks pretty weak.

He uses the same jig as us what do you mean he doesn't know where to pull it, try the towing eye i have lots of different clamps for all situations do not attach to the weaker parts go for the srong part of the leg there easy peasy, and move very easy. and a gentle heat on the crease helps, keep your eye on him, make sure all gaps are good before you pay him,

Nice one Steve, thanks for keeping us in the loop (y)
That 'champagne' colour (note spelling!) that it fades to is actually quite nice. It's bound to be better than Rosso Swift (Punto Pink).

Though the 124 Turbo forum seems about as relevant as the Uno forum... !
maybe it should be renamed 'turboFIAT.com'.

Strange that the turbo is actually faulty ("all this excitement has been a little too much", LOL), seems like bad luck really... why don't you just put some seals in it and leave it standard? What has actually happened to it?

As for the chassis rail, well you can probably guess my answer to that. Two of my Unos have had much worse creases on both sides... and they still do... out there roaming the streets... :)

Hi alex

Im not so worried about the colour. I dont really care what it looks TBH, I just want it to go.

Turbo has been dead for years from what I can tell. I expected it to be well munched up. I took it out yesterday and there is massive play in the bearings etc. Id rebuild it if it's possible. When they get that bad its usually good night though. You know me, ive got stacks of turbo bits. Ive got a few options on a replacment.

Dave was going to change the name of turbo124 but I dont think we could really come up with something better.

Thats good news steve, what did you pay for your gt, i gave £500 for the 2 UT's , its nice to see he got the measuring system out ( the long aluminium ladder with the brackets, telescopic sliders,) dont forget to touch up where the sill clamps have been, they realy clamp on and break the paint, good luck mate Ant!

As im in NZ, the price I paid would probably have no meaning to you. But it was very cheap. I get the turbo back tomorrow. I should have it finished by the end of the weekend.

Have you worked out which turbo is going on, bet you can't wait to be whizzing up the road eh! , it is nice to have a new project to play with hows your old Ut, havn't heard from him in a while,

Clive is in the UK right now. He's been worked at tidying up the Uno. I have to say it looks great.

I still have the original Garrett hybrid that came on my Uno when I bought it. I decided that was the best option, so Im fitting that to the Punto. It needed a rebuild first, which is all done now. Im just waiting on a new compressor cover. I was not happy with the original profile (for the larger compressor wheel). Im getting another redone. Only problem is getting the exhaust elbow sorted, im not sure what Im doing about that yet.

I plan to have it running by Sunday :)

Another GT owner I know is getting his turbo modified right now too. Its going to be a cracker little IHI hybrid. Much better than my poo garrett.

Man, thats terrtble. you couldn't drive it like it was. The chassis was well bent, bonnet wouldn't close and the bumper rubbing on the tyre etc. There is no way you'd get a straight pannel to fit anyway. Nothing hit the guard, its crumpled because its attached to the bent chassis.

I want the car to be "right". I dont care what it looks like at the moment.

Youv'e done a good job there steve, now she'l spin in a straight line, are the punto parts you need easily available in nz, i expect the bumper to be the hardest to get, have you asked your bodyman how much to replace the wing and door, or doorskin, and blow the side in, I think alex has been smoking some herbs!! he he good luck with the hybrid you DEFECTOR!!!! Ant!
