Hi Everyone,

I recently replaced the complete clutch on my Uno 1100 with a new Valeo clutch kit and I’m having terrible problems selecting 1st and reverse now without the gears grinding. At the time of replacing the clutch the master and slave cylinders were also replaced and the flywheel was skimmed. I’ve heard from some people that Valeo clutches sometimes give problems in the Uno, does anyone have any knowledge of this?

I have bled the hydraulic system over and over and also watched the operating lever on the bell housing move its full travel, just to make sure that it is moving the full distance.

After replacing the original Fiat clutch, (it had done 230 000km!), with the Valeo unit things were so bad that I paid to have the gearbox overhauled, thinking that that must be the problem but it’s just as bad as before. I’m now planning on pulling the box out this weekend and changing the clutch kit with another unit of a different make.

The supplier that I bought the Valeo clutch kit from, (pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing), says that there have been no returns on these and he doubts that it is the clutch, however I cannot see what else it could be!

If anyone has any ideas or knows about Valeo clutches not working well in the Uno’s please could you comment?

Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately Valeo clutch a supply has rather bad name! The LUK or Sachs are the reliable ones rather according to the tests. Rehearse on the highlighting to claim!
Possibly the gearchange controll rods worthy to renew, gets it much more easily then.

Sachs is better, But first check your gear selecting lever to make sure that is not a problem

Hi,
I turned out that it was the Valeo clutch that was faulty. A new LUK unit was fitted and the problem was solved. I got a refund on the Valeo clutch.
A simple fix but a lot of hassle in having to pull the gearbox out again!
