Continuing on from Dunks https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=27100 thread (that was moved)...

 Bianca only failed her MOT today. As I'm Manchester, the Uno is in Maidstone (Kent), the e-bay seller was good enough to take the Uno for the test.

:) She only failed on: -

Wiper Blades
Headlamp adjustment
Brakes - Callipers and Disks
Exhaust seal.

:p The garage made me Laugh when they quoted  £496.96 for the lot. Is some  winding me up?

 I'm a bit worried as they said its all in pieces at the back of the garage. Never Mind!

:woot: I have 2 weeks for the free retest - But the guy was not happy when I explained I'm an enthusiast...

:nerner: I don't like their attitude (speaking down to me – no need)- so I will be taking my new Uno somewhere else In Maidstone

Question is - where? (y) I wonder if anyone Maidstone way could help?

Regards All,

(y) Really –

 I reckon the previous owner has been fleeced for along time by this garage.

:tempt: I’m prepared to go all the way to the top to get to the bottom of this!

Do u want a scrappy in Kent or Manchester?

If u want a local one, have you checked out the Cornbrook scrappy (AFOS) on the way to town? Last time i looked their were 3 or 4 unos there...

And those '________' you put in your thread names and the stickys in the Uno section make the thread titles hard to understand! ;)

Find out what's wrong with the calipers first. From experience, unless the seals have gone, they can be sorted.

Take them off, pump the piston in and out a few times using foot brake (out) and g clamp (in), get all the oxide scraped off the moving surfaces (where the caliper slides and where the pads are retained) and then reassemble with copper grease. I do this on the X1/9 every year before the MoT and never have a problem getting it through.

Same with me - just pumped em in and out a few times and all was well. I did need new disks and pads tho. Shame i dont know the area well enough to tell you a good garage. shame you cant get it up to mine cos can fix it there (get parts no probs) and MOT station is literally a minute round the corner.

Bad news louie, but all is not lost :)

Cheers for the advice :)

(n)I don’t use those barkers any longer. I didn’t think £10 for a second hand tailgate seal was a good price. – It wasn’t in perfect order.

(y) There is one in Salford that’s very reasonable! They had 2 Unos in last time I was there.

:bang: Ah Sorry – I only did it to draw attention to the thread. Once you open the thread and read the post, the title explains its self (hopefully before the end of the first post).

:slayer:I guess I could have been more irritating and named the thread
“!!!!!!!!!!!L@@k garage in Kent tried to rip me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Chris, Ill bare your comments in mind when naming threads :)

(y) Thanks RS Pilot!

As I haven’t seen the car yet, and the guy from the garage got a bit arsy on the phone at the, I don’t know exactly what the problem is. Ill see if I can get the E-bay seller to fax or e-mail the fail sheet.

It could possibly be rear callipers and disks – I’m not sure how modded this Uno is – the seller isn’t so up on cars – hence massive quote from his regular garage.

Dave, (y) Thanks for the pointer!

Spam0r was going to sell me his callipers for £2 when I got the MK2 turbo bits off him. The price is low because I bought so many other bits. Not sure if he has scrapped the Uno yet, But Ill bare Bush in mind :)

Sucker for punishment - I returned to the same garage in M'cr a year later and Paid only £30
