Hey all, looking for a car for £2.5k due to this https://www.fiatforum.com/leisure-lounge/180057-what-do-i-do.html

It's obviously not deffinate i'm changing the punto, but.. and i know i sound like a tart but after the brakes locked up and nearly crashed, i've kinda lost my confidence in it, how gay!

anyway..

I'm after something that is/has..

Diesel with remapable potentiol.
look half decent.
decent MPG
low(ish) insurance, i'd say a group to stay under but insurance groups aren't a good way of predicting premiums.
something that could tow a tourer van

that's pretty much it.

My favorite would be a 3dr focus TDCi

but would consider a motorway cruiser such as an audi, mondeo or something.

any help would be great!

Focus - You wont get a TDCI for 2.5k unless its been to the moon and back TDDI is probably more realistic

3 doors are more expensive and rarer, go for 5 door if you want a car quick

Go for one after 2002 its the slight facelifted one and looks better IMO

I like the choices you have considered, they will all stand you in good stead, the 306 is a darkhorse suggestion would go for a 110 over a 90 especially if you are towing

Check the twoing and kerb weights of all the samller cars (306, focus etc) against the van before jumping in with a purchase

ford focus (our 04 reg work 1.8tdci 113 - iirc), has 120k on the clock and still runs nicely :)

ive even found a disel stilo :p (3 door though... the estate might look better towing a cvan)

if your gonna get a vectra... theres always the 2.2dti engine... not as good as the cdti but still diesel

or theres always the faithfull mondeo (most of the comapny ones at work are running 130ish thou. before there sold on) :)

or somthing slightly different to a mondeo... the mazda 6?

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...cleYearOfManufacture=2003&vehicleRegLetter=03

or an almera di sport? (bit old manish though :p)

dont dismiss a skoda octvavia as daft as it seems :D

or a volvo workhorse

thanks for the replies, and josh, appreciate it.

seen a mondeo 03 reg turbo diesel, nice blue metalic, seems high spec with alloys, front fogs, all around electrics and stuff. 70k miles.

£2k for the punto and £500 on top for the mondeo, need to do a bit of research though

anyone think it's worth it?

not sure which version it is though, bloody RAC stopped doing them number plate searches can't find anywhere else :(

reg is FV03 WZM

edit - found it's a zetec TDCi, wish i'd looked at it closer now, apparantly they have 6 speed boxes and are 130bhp

mondys are bargains and great to drive, a tdci zetec with 75k on an 03 plate is only worth 2.5k these days bit its still a good deal. i worry that you may get bored of it easily because you arent old enough to appreciate a mondy yet :p

think i should go for it?

they got it in yesterday so it's not been advertised or cleaned yet, looked pretty good inside, felt better put together than the punto but i only had a 2 minuite look inside.

mk3 is well put together, and this is the slight facelift as well, it would be a great choice. My mondy was great 100k+ and not a problem!

The wheels look like Ghia alloys than the zetec ones, they may have been possibly downgraded at some point, not sure though would check with the club.

Beware though there wont be many your own age in the club, they also talk in specification levels and chassis numbers rather than in english.

Mondeomania is very good though

cheers apple! joined mondeoforum.org, seem helpful enough, just need to get onto the DVLA now and sort the reg out
