ok i know most of you detest mods and will of course call me a chav but ohh well.

i have just ordered a undercar neon set so before i fit it this weekend, any hints and tips of anyone that has fitted one ?

where did you wire it upto the 12V+ and GRND

is there easy places to mount the tubes ?

any help would be much apriciated.

neons are crap and will break easily, u shud of got led's much more durable and brighter in some cases

Best advice i can give is the higher you can get the car off the floor the easier you'll find it.

The side two are easy, its just a case of screwing them to the underside of the car. The front i mounted by making two brackets and bolting them to the two bits of plastic that come out from the bottom of the bumper and then zip tying it to them. The back was roughly the same process as the front but make sure that the exhaust heat shield is covering the close parts of the neon to the exhaust, im not sure what kind of heat they can take but i did it just to be sure.

Wiring was fairly easy, theres plenty of things to route the wires down, and on the left hand side there should be a spare space in the brackets for the brake lines which are perfect.

Any other questions, just ask.

1) pick up neons
2) walk to bin
3) open bin
4) place neons in bin
5) close lid of bin
6) locate suitable birch branch
7) whip yourself with birch branch

:)

Come on Tom! He sad he knows some wont like them - lad is only after advice!

I found a spare power lead behind my fuse box. Unsore what it was originally for (may have been electric mirrors). I Used this as my 12v feed ad found an earthing point close by. Once you find these it should be pretty easy to wire up once you have a switch in.

As mentioned above - the sides are pretty easy. The front and back are a little more difficult. I too had some brackets made to attach the p clips too.

says tom with his bling bling carbon fibre bits, lol

pot..kettle...chav...

amit i considered LED's but i dident really want to spend more then say £50-£60 really, i am going to service my car on sunday and i thought while it is up in the air it is perfect time to fit them :) and with dark nights upon us...bling bling.

so you both had to make brackets to fit ? don't suppost by any chance either of you have a pic ?

behind the fusebox seems like a good place to fit it, how about getting the switch into the cockpit ? footwell grommit again ? i have noticed there is a hole under my rear seats that goes directly under my car, i was thinking of useing this and mounting the switch somewhere nearby, any opinions on this ?

and how much did u guys pay for yours ? and where did u get it from ?

I will try and get a pic of the bracket tomorrow as that is still there and the neons are not.

The switch - I put that in the coin holder nr the handbrake. I passed the wiring through the carpet on the drivers side. You can get through there of you follow the wires.

I paid £60 for mine but they were a little on the cheap side from waxacar. I wasnt impressed and took them back after a couple of weeks when the longer tubes started to flicker

ok wat i did was drilled 2 holes int eh bottom of my sidskirts, and sat my side ones in my side skirts and cable tied them pointing the middle of the car. this way stones hit the side skirt not the neon.

the rear when i looked under there is like 2 mettal brackets the bumper is bolted 2. whcih was the correct distance accross for the neon and and 2 spare hole. so cable tied to that.

the front u have 2 options

1) cable tie it to the bottom of ur radiator bar that the rad sits on.

2) wat i did as mine are the max power ones (got them free so not gonna complain) which are not to bright. i drilled a hole one the under side of the original bumper cable tied it on and job was done.

Wiring to switch and power was easy as i have the max power remote control on my keys. so everything goes to this box and thats it.

wiring the neons around the car. the rear goes over the petrol tank. joins the right side here. then over heat shield to the left side and connects to that neon down there it goes and up near the battery.

as u can see all cable tied like a chav if u want to say it BUT no drilling ot the car so no rust and easy removal.

The brackets were literally just a piece of strip metal that i cut up and drilled out to reduce the weight. Bolt hole in one end to attach to the bumpers and thats it.

For the wiring, i mounted the transformer on top of the air filter box (when i put the induction kit on i cut a piece of perspex to fit the top) Either the front or left hand neon should be the end of the circuit, thus being close to run straight to the transformer. Also it means the transformer is next to the battery.

Personally i entered the cockpit with the main wiring loom in the drivers footwell and routed the wire around the various trays and things in the engine bay to the battery, going through the air feed for part of the way.

i'm thinking of some red led-based ones on my black hlx. wondered about maybe wiring it to the rear window wiper switch, as i have no rear wiper now anyway.
I think i'm up to date with the law on them, but it depends what you read what the law is quoted as. Any advice on that side of things?

light, get green mate they would look well smart on your car, remember tfatf ? black cars/green neons........sexy !!!!

and i think as long as they arnt flashing blue ones then they are fine, they sell them in mchellfords etc now so i am assumeing they are now legal although it is a grey area still because the people that makes the laws are a little behind the times

I have Red LEDs under mine....they cost me only £65 at Max Power! Not bad i know, i got them late on the last day

Mine actually plugs into the lighter so fed mine through into the car which was fairly easy..my fron and rear brackets are attached to the underneath of the bumpers which mine are fibre glass......no probs

Hope this helps ya, anyway they look proper bo i have to say but led would of looked better dude. I have 6 functions on mine
