Hi, I'm new to the forum, so please excuse any "newbie Faults"!

I'm in The UK and have a 2008 Ducato Heavy in my motorhome. Today I was moving it onto levelling blocks when it stalled and now the gear stick is just "floppy"! It won't go into any gear. The clutch pedal is going up and down and seems fine. Any ideas what damage has been done and possible repair options would be gratefully received. I'm in a safe place and it's not urgent, but I'd like to know what awaits me. Thank you.

Sounds like the plastic ball joints on the cable ends on the gearbox have spit ,either new cables [ luverly job ] or repair[ welding ] them with ball joints from early vw golf, which are metal, fiddly to get right but i have done a few in the past .

Thank you for your replies. I'll have a look later. Though as to me attempting the repair, I'm afraid that ain't happening! I know enough to put diesel in and top up the washer bottle, after that it's a garage! Do you know whether it will need a garage, or could a mobile mechanic attempt it, assuming it is that fault?

Its doable at home if you raise the front of the vehicle to access the cables at the gear box end , your next fight is removing gearstick and the mounting assembly ...!!!

Adjust your new cable to the length of the old ones , your next fight is aligning it all up and screwing the cables tidely to the vehicle floor and then fine adjustment of the cables , takes time and patience or go get ripped off at the stealership ..!!
