I have had a timing belt break at 50,000 miles they should be good for 75,000Has anyone else had this problem ? if so were Fiat helpful ??

Should I be worried?
We've just had our 50,000 mile service (non fiat dealer) and they advised we do it at the next service.
Offered us the genuine Fiat belt or a pattern one.
Is it better to get it done before 62,000 miles then?
And whats the feeling on non Fiat belts?

Sorry I have no knowledge of non Fiat belts, but my advice would be to get the belt changed. My car has been in the Fiat garage for 12 days awaiting a spanner !!!! from Italy, spanner will not be available until 23rd July, only then will they be able to see the full extent of the engine damage

Hi,
I don't think Fiat or any other make their own timing belts, I usually fit Gates or continental which seem to be original equipment on most European vehicles. Again they don't fail at any given time, if they fail there is usually a reason, oil contamination, tensioner pulley failure etc. Waiting for a spanner..... sounds like a cop out to me, most toools required are in the average toolbox, if not available at most good motor factors. Good luck with it.
