Please help.
Ulysse (04) broke down - alternator belt shredded & pulled off cam belt. garage said - amazingly no damage to engine.

Garage replaced all belts etc & reassembled. found that no power at all ! replaced air flow sensor (!) which improved power.

have car back now (550 quid lighter), but almost no power on take-off - flat as a pancake, once turbo kicks it's ok - plus loads of black smoke on any revving.

Only way I can pull away at a junction is to rev the heck out of it !! garage say tuned up as well as can - also took to fiat to put on their machine - but couldn't detect anything wrong ! Help ??

Could be several things.
Maf sensor which is a quick and easy clean have a search as I have listed how to clean it, also have a look at the Egr valve again a search will show you how to remove and clean etc.

I take it you have a new filter air oil and fuel?

Black smoke means unburnt fuel so possibly your injectors are clogged up too.

Read thread '03 2.0 JTD broke

Then this..........

Car is in my garage and I have started dismantling engine from top down this is because : firstly there is definetly now some engine damage though I now suspect there was the first time round.
Secondly the reason the belt came off was because the alternator pulley was faulty and out of alignment so I suggest you get yours checked so it does'nt happen again !
I did consider other problems such as EGR valve and so on but this is too much of a coincidence so reckon your engine has similar damage to mine.
If you look at other threads concerning cam belt failure they seem to say that the engine is expensive if not uneconomial to fix, however I will post on here to let people know how mine goes, can't work on it this week but will know within a week or two how bad it is !!!!

Good luck.

would love to know how garage could be sure there was no damage

does you engine make a funny quiet sort of backfire noise from the air filter/box while idling ?

I did wonder that myself, but i'm no expert. They are reputable garage & even said they took it to the fiat dealer & put it on their machine (?) & couldn't find any problems.

There are certainly some sounds in the engine that weren't there before though - haven't located them though.

Car back with the garage now - but I don't have much hope. Like you - I think there as some damage to the engine initially that they didn't see (surprised it started tho)

hi mate am a engine builder sounds like either the timing is out or you have some bent vavles give a compreesion test and check th the valv:)e timing is spot on mate

just a quick update : CAN'T GET THE F***CKING INJECTORS OUT

OK so the cambelt failed because the crappy BOSCH alternator had a rubbish pulley .
But I have fixed several engines in the past !! you just take them apart and replace the broken bits

How hard can it be ?

What do you say FIAT UK ?????????????
